Basically Your good old fried seafood. Expensive for the quantity, but probably the best quality out of all the other conch joints. We got fried clams, mahi mahi tacos, and cracked conch. I was planning on getting conch fritters because that's what's famous, but if you actually like conch and aren't creeped out by the idea of eating a giant snail, get the cracked conch which is actual pieces of conch. Mahi mahi tacos are also pretty good, well seasoned. Clams are great since they're actually fried whole clams, not clam strips.

this is on the "Must visit" list when you go to Key West. Lobster roll, that is why you are going there. Soooo good. get the extra lobster added. This is big chunks of lobster, not the shredded variety. It was delicious and I was craving a second lobster roll the rest of the trip. Can't wait to stop back

  • Keith H.

Excellent lobster rolls and great conch fritters. Didn't get the clams as we were advised they were not the best for carry-out. We appreciated the advice and enjoyed every bite of what we got. Hope to return soon.

Great spot for stopping by and getting their famous lobster roll, I came here after dinner and devoured the roll. A must try in Key West!

  • Stacia M.

Really quaint whole in the wall with great lobster rolls and shrimp. Needed some shade and a snack after a full day in the Keys and it hit the spot. Lobster rolls had cool fresh lobster on a toasted roll. Fried shrimp was good and coleslaw was cool and crisp. Sucked it down with a corona. Delicious

  • Samantha F.

Amazing lobster roll ! It is a must have , it's also a specialty . The bread is toasted to perfection and they are not stingy about their lobster . Very filling not to creamy and I suggest not sharing

  • Emily C.

Reviews of restaurants in tourist traps are notoriously inflated. So I am never surprised when my expectations are dashed. However, this place far exceeded my expectations. We ordered a lobster roll and fried shrimp to share. Usually fried shrimp are nothing to write home about, but these were so fresh. Loved the batter. The lobster roll was the real star. Absolutely delicious.

  • Maria D.

Been to this place a number of times as a frequent visitor of key west. The lobster roll is something not to miss!

    (5)
  • Cory B.

This was the best food I've had in Key West. The clam chowder was really thick and creamy with large chunks of everything, really delicious and a reasonable price. The pulled pork tacos had a lot of flavor and a big portion size. It's well worth the money. I can't recommend this place enough.

    (5)
  • Jennifer A.

The BEST lobster rolls and crab cakes on a bed of romaine lettuce w duck sauce with a side of sweet potatoe fries! If you're in Key West make sure you don't miss out. On a corner lot, great little hole in the wall :)

    (5)
  • Michele A.

Seriously delicious. Best lobster roll ever! I'd honestly drive down from Miami just to have one.

    (5)
  • Lucas M.

I should give them a three stars because the conch fritters were full of shell pieces, but the lobster roll kept their score high. The lobster roll is overfilled with juicy lobster, and the roll is grilled to perfection. Definitely stop by for a quick bite if you're walking down Duval.

  • Jacob C.

We ordered the chicken tenders, conch fritters, lobster roll, fries, and cole slaw.....everything came up to $38.00. Kinda pricey but quality was good, fries were average though. There is very limited seating and they were pretty busy. My wife loved her lobster roll and my daughters chicken strips were the bomb! Give this place a try for a relatively quick lunch!

    (4)
  • K P.

Yum...Yum...Yum...definitely a place to go. The guy taking care of the counter was awesome! Lobster rolls are rocking and French fries...sooo good!

    (5)
  • Skye C.

Absolutely loved this place! Must go if you are in key west!!! Lobster sandwich is da bomb!!!!!

    (5)
  • Leslie B.

The lobster roll and the garlic clams were very flavorful (and I'm a picky eater.) They are well worth the money. The service was great. We asked where the best beach was and the person taking our order walked out of the restaurant to grab a map from the nearest kiosk. He gave us the map, showed us how to get there, and marked it for us. How nice is that?! We'll come back if we are ever in Key West again.

    (5)
  • Damon D.

Come hungry. The food to die for the portions larger than life. DJs is a no brainier, gotta come here place. Tilapia Tacos or the Lobster roll, either one is a GREAT choice.

    (5)
  • Rick H.

Very good!!! Eaten a lot of lobster various ways and if you like sandwiches you won't be disappointed. Great roll, lobster is packed in heavy and not drowning in mayo. I'd go back if we were here longer and not trying to maximize food options.

    (5)
  • Raechel S.

The service was so wonderful. The guy, sweating profusely behind the counter, didn't hesitate to tell us what was worth trying, what a staple of "Key West" is. We ended up getting the fried conch, the lobster roll and some fries. I know that this shack was featured on DDD with Guy Fieri, but that was definitely not why we stopped by. If we are at the southernmost point in Florida with fresh seafood, then we had to go to a fresh place for sure!

    (4)
  • Hamid M.

If you like Lobster... and yes that was with a Capital "L", then you are going to LOVE DJ's Clam Shack! The Lobster roll here is fresh, delicious, and lite on the mayo. This is a must do while in Key West. Don't get dressed up to come here though, as the name implies, it is a low key, come as you are (bathing suite, bikini top, sandals...) SHACK. At $16 a roll, you get what feels like a whole lobster on a buttery Texas toast. Wow!!!! Scrumptious!

    (5)
  • Kenton B.

Holy crap. What can I say. I think I died and went to heaven. The only problem I have is the price for the overstuffed lobster roll. $27 is a little high for that, but the flavor is money. I definitely recommend anyone traveling to try this place and go for the overstuffed. The regular is just a little light. Great afternoon snack before dinner.

    (4)
  • Mauricio H.

There was a reason why they were on TV. They set the bar for Lobster rolls, and have not been able to enjoy a lobster roll since. They toast the bread in buttery garlic, and awww man. Consider yourself warned.... if you wish to no longer enjoy lobster rolls, then go for it.

    (5)
  • Chris D.

Look- the place is a little expensive, but it's Key West. I have now had the Lobster Rolls here twice, and as someone who lived in Maine, I can tell you that this is the real thing. Simple, highlights the good amount of Maine (not Florida) lobster. Really, really good. Clams are excellent as well. If you're looking for Conch fritters, there are other places you can go. But if you're hankering for a great Lobster Roll, come to DJs.

    (4)
  • Me M.

This place is as good as any lobster roll in New England. We went 2 times while in Key West. The smaller lobster roll is 1/4 lb of all lobster, some celery, and a little mayo- and it's huge. You can get a lobster roll with twice as much lobster on it, but I'm not sure if I could finish it, but my fiancé did and was stuffed. Both come with a side of coleslaw as well. Their sangria has tons of crushed ice to keep you cool. Their beer is ice cold. The service was friendly. Kevin was happy, helpful, and personable. We will continue to come back multiple times each year we are here. It was awesome!

    (5)
  • Kelly M.

I had the fried chicken tacos and my wife had the fried shrimp tacos The food was very good but be warned these are shareable portions :-)

    (4)
  • D H.

We were looking for fish tacos and found this gem on Duval. We ordered the fried shrimp tacos and fish tacos with a side of onion rings. When we got our food we realized our mistake. We were expecting small tacos like a lot of places serve so we had gotten two of each taco. Huge tacos that came on a bed of fries already. Holy cow! The shrimp tacos were amazing. The fish ones were good but we had better flavored ones at Sandy's Diner (theirs was grilled fish-yummo) needless to say were overstuffed and in pain when we waddles out. It's a dive so don't expect much seating but we would def come back here. GREAT place to eat.

    (5)
  • Christian G.

Lobster roll is insane!! Taste is incredibly, looks very appealing, awesome mouth watering good

    (5)
  • Casey H.

OMGGGeeezzzzyyyy.... DJ's Clam Shack popped my Lobster Roll cherry! The lobster roll was $18 and was worth EVERY penny! The roll was packed with lobster on lobster on lobster and served with a side of cole slaw. The store is located on Duval street. The ordering counter is about 5-6' from when you walk into the store. After ordering, it took about 10 mins for our food to come out. There are a few seats with a counter top facing duval which makes people watching possible. :) There are also additional seating in the back shaded by trees which was nice.

    (5)
  • Jeremy T.

One of my favorite meals on the trip. This little shack on the quiet part of Duval was visited by DDD, so I had to try it. Only ordered the lobster roll and cracked conch, which were delicious. The roll supposedly uses Maine lobster and I had thought this place was only one in key west with Maine lobster, turned out there were a few other restaurants as well. Nice place along Duval to eat on your trip.

  • Carolina P.

Yelp 5-star reviews regarding this restaurant are completely right! Arrived at DJ's Clam Shack based on Yelp reviews and was not let down AT ALL. Savory lobster rolls were to die for! Lobster rolls are served with cole slaw on the side which is amazing as well. Also, their sangrias are fucking marvelous. The person behind the counter who took my order was so sweet and very nice. She recommended the overstuffed lobster roll, but decided not to as the regular one would suffice. We avoided to sit out back on the patio and chose to sit out by the front of the locale to people-watch. I also noticed their sign which states "they have the freshest seafood in town" and to be quite honest, they are right. Tasted very fresh and flavorful. This is one of those places you just won't notice as it's a very small restaurant but dude, it is so worth it.

    (5)
  • Delta B.

Delish! Lobster roll , fried clams & fries . Little pricey but is New England in Key West.

    (5)
  • Tulsa H.

Shitty service. The chubby man (owner or manager?) on December 30, 2014 at 8:30 PM to 8:45 PM has a severe racist attitude to those that are different from him it seems from observations with different customers. I was told he's only one person and I had to wait a bit when I was actually talking to his staff. His temperament would be better used elsewhere. He sounds very polite on the microphone though when announcing the customers numbers. Food is mediocre. Service is horrible.

  • Christopher W.

While on the island I was looking for langusta which is a prevalent delicacy down on in the south florida keys area. Being that I love lobster rolls I came to DJ's which of course is a tourist trap but hey I am a tourist. I had the roll and it was just as great as people said it was. I am just wondering why they have to get the lobster way up in New England when they can use the tails right there off the coast? Anyway the sandwich is extremely expensive but worth the walk down Duval for.

  • Nicole B.

The wifey learned about this place via Diner, Drive-Ins, and Dives I believe. They definitely in a "shack" but one with a great vantage point of Duval. This is a prime spot to pull up a stool, grab some big ol' tacos, and watch the insanity of downtown Key West. Primo people watching here. I had the fried shrimp tacos with a cup of water. The tacos are big so come hungry. The spicy aioli was the perfect amount of spice without overpowering the shrimp. I had coleslaw as my side and it was good but nothing to write home about. I've had better. The true stand out is those tacos. There are only 6 stools in the front of the restaurant so be prepared to stand and snack or take it down to a bench if this place is busy. We managed to catch it on one of those unseasonably cold Key West days so my wife and I had only one other couple on the other stools next to us. The cashier was helpful with our few questions and chatty in a good way. Again, great southern hospitality that I love so dearly. Go grab some tacos and be prepared to see some questionable activity down on Duval!

  • Alex G.

Order at the front with some seating in the front and back. Overstuffed lobster was delicious and is served on a Texas toast type bread (portion size is just about right for 1, I snacked on the dates sweet potatoe fries). Date got the Mahi Mahi tacos, fish is fried and put into a wrap. Came out as 2 wraps with a decent amount of meat in each (changed the fries to sweet potatoe for 2 bucks). Overall a solid choice. (Date felt this deserved 5 stars but she's drunk, I'd argue a 4.5 would be on the money)

    (4)
  • Brian W.

Very nice, cool little place. I had the famous lobster roll. I also ordered a order of the chicken fingers and sweet potato French fries for my daughter. All of it was good. Also a really neat place to hang out and do some pretty good people watching while you sit at the little bar area over looking Duval St.

    (5)
  • Pete S.

Wife had the clams which were good and I had the clam strips which you could order at your local Denny's. Being from the North Shore of Mass., I've had great clam strips (The Clam Box Ipswich for one) and I think DJ's came from a bag in his freezer.

    (2)
  • Richard C.

Dj's was good. I guess Diners, drives and dives came here. I got to try the conch tacos and they were really good and my gf tried the Lobster Roll, which was also good too. It was nothing to get crazy about, but if you love fish tacos and seafood rolls you should def. try this place out.

    (3)
  • Timothy N.

Excellent conch fritters!! Great view of Duval St. Perfect place to people watch, and enjoy good food. This place has been featured on the Food Network's DDD.

  • Erin R.

Lobster MMMM... Baby roosters love slaw...fried conch not the fritters were yummy and Mahi Mahi tacos great.

    (5)
  • Andrew S.

One of the best lobster rolls I've had to date!

    (5)
  • Lainie E.

Seafood is legit. They really do offer a mix of northern and southern style seafood. My husband is from NJ and loves Ipswich clams. I'm a southerner and have to say these are the best conch fritters I've had...tender conch and crispy without being too crusty, very delicate on the inside. Hot dogs were to die for served on grilled'n' buttered Texas toast. Tender and tasty Little Necks were served in a delicious herb butter and the fried shrimp was d'lish. Wait your turn to sit in the front and people watch. Everyone was gawking at our food because it looked so good and stopped to ask how it was! A must visit in Key West.

  • Matthew T.

Had a really great time at DJs clam shack. The food was spectacular and the staff was very caring. The only thing that I could complain is the seating. But I still gave 5 stars because it wasn't that bad. I recommend the mahi mahi tacos and lobster roll.

    (5)
  • Mike H.

I went to DJ's based upon Yelp! reviews, and I was certainly not disappointed! This was an awesome find, thanks Yelp! The Conch fritters were a meal all to themselves. They had plenty of meat in them, and the dipping sauce was tasty as well. I had a hard time eating them all. The lobster roll was $15, so I was a little sceptical at first. It was awesome! It was stuffed with lobster meat. Some places sprinkle a little lobster on top, but DJ's loaded my sandwich down with lobster. Delicious! There is patio seating around back, and I found it fun to watch the chickens run around. The Yelp! reviews were right about this place, check it out!

    (4)
  • Sally Y.

Best lobster roll ever! But the bread of the roll was even better! If you are hungry, get the overstuffed. It will get you overstuffed! Otherwise just get the regular one. The only thing is that if u r looking for a place with air conditioning, dont come here. There were small bugs crawling across the table while eating. So if u r looking for a good place to sit down n eat, dont come!

    (5)
  • alessia u.

Lobster roll... FANTASTIC!!!Right price 16 $ each.We tried fried shrimp too, very good! The place is nice!!!We had 10%off with yelp so again FANTASTIC!

  • Angelina T.

Clams I didn't like. They were extremely salty. I couldn't get past 2 clams. Overloaded lobster roll, on the other hand, was heaven. I would definitely order it again. Get a side of their pickled onions. Their tacos are pretty good, too. Love their spicy pink sauce. Sangria could be a bit stronger. I felt like I was drinking highly diluted sangria, which was a waste of my stomach space.

    (5)
  • Tommy M.

Oh yea this is a place that you have to go try. Love the food had a fried red snapper that was to,kill for. Everyone is nice I will have to go back when I'm in town

    (5)
  • Trang D.

Had the clam strips due to all the reviews on travel channel. It was ok but not as good as New England clam strips. The cole slaw was refreshing and great.

    (3)
  • Michelle S.

Fairly decent little clam shack in the heart of Key West right on Duval. Had the Ipswich clam basket which was good but not blown away good! Next time I will try the lobster roll which looked amazing served on the proper roll as well. The drink selection is limited to about 5 or 6 beers and that white wine that is packaged in it's own glass. Thought the prices were en point.

    (3)
  • Ravi D.

If you are in key west and you do not try the lobster roll at DJ Clam, you are losing out on the best Key West has to offer. They have the best lobster roll I have ever tried, better than the oyster bar in grand central, NYC.

    (5)
  • Kelly-Ann J.

Service was quick. Seafood is top notch. The overstuffed lobster roll was incredible. The conch fritters are light and flavorful. Great find!

    (4)
  • Yann M.

Fish taco, the pickled onion is totally highlighting the flavor! Good fish batter as well!! Clam was juicy! Te sauce was fantastic for bread dipping! Lobster roll was good, but nothing too special.

    (4)
  • Allison S.

Lobster roll is delicious and the sweet potato fries are huge and tasty. Relatively inexpensive for the amount of lobster you get. Want to hit it up before we leave the island. Next time...fried clams.

    (4)
  • D R.

Fantastic Conch fritters and fries, with 3 dipping sauces. Lobster roll was delicious.... A must visit when in Key West.

    (5)
  • Kelly S.

Lobster Roll! I'm a sucker for a good lobster roll and for me if it's overdone with fillers like mayo & celery or the bun isn't right then it ain't a lobster roll, it's lobster salad. THIS was a Lah'bsta roll! Full of lobster meat and the bun was perfect buttery toasty but just oh so yummy. We were able to sit in the back at a picnic table and was so good because as lobster pieces spilled into the basket from oversized bites, I was able to fork them up comfortably seated. LAH'BSTA ROLL

    (5)
  • Susan C.

Kevin and his crew was awesome. The customer service was great, official southern hospitality. The food was excellent! I had the conch fritters they were perfectly seasoned! Authentic! The famed lobster roll. I was so tempted to just taste the bread my husband loved it. Being allergic to lobster I wasn't sure I should die for it. My mother in law is the fried shrimp queen, she gave it the stamp of approval. If your looking for a great lunch experience for a good price stop in at DJ you be happy you did!!

  • Lisa W.

We loved it! Ok, so we just got into key west the night before, and were looking for a place for da bite to eat. We found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. First, you order at the window. This was a surprise to us and we anticipated having to stop again later for food, but that wasn't the case as the portions were huge. There is seating in the back, or if there is space, you and another person can sit in front facing Duval. That's were we sat. Our meal: Steamed Clams Conch fritters 2 iced teas The conch fritters came out first and were served with fries. They were amazing, and I haven't been able to find them so far this week as good as they were here. The fries were lightly seasoned and perfect for us. The steamed clams were swimming in butter, which was fine by me, because I was able to dip that delicious garlic bread in it!! Also, jalapeños were added to the butter sauce adding an extra kick. It was really a nice touch. We didn't know this at the time we decided to go here, but found out at our arrival, that this location was a Diners, Drive ins and dives location. My husband is a big fan of the show, and I think that added something special for him. I'd like to go back again and try their lobster roll!

  • Rhonda V.

Had the lobster roll was so good we had a second one later in the week. Huge chunks of lobster on a buttery grilled bun, A-mazing!!

    (5)
  • Mary R.

Best lobster roll! Large chunks of sweet, claw meat. Lightly dressed. Toasted buttery roll. Every bite has luscious, sweet lobster. Definitely would recommend. Fries and onion rings side are so large you could share.

    (5)
  • Sunpatakorn S.

It was The best lobster we ever had. Lobster in the roll actually came in big pieces not just shredded meat. Clam chowder was excellent as well. We were definitely impressed.

  • Ramy C.

Went twice on vacation it was so good. The cracked conch is a must and the Maine Lobster Roll is beyond words. Fun little atmosphere for a group or even by yourself. An absolute must if you're in Key West.

    (5)
  • Dojo A.

WOW! This place didn't disappoint. I've had Maine lobsters in Boston and this place is definitely up there or even better. Their oversized lobster roll is a must to have esp if you are hungry coz it really live up to its name. The steamed clams are delish. Don't forget to finish the broth!!

    (5)
  • Kelly S.

Pretty darn good lobsta roll here, folks! I'd skip anything else.

    (4)
  • Ellen L.

I should have tried the lobster roll but didn't. The price of it seems high but since I've never had one I don't know if it would have been worth it. I'm not a big crab or lobster fan so I didn't want to take a $25 gamble (one sandwich to share with my boyfriend). Instead, we split an order of clam strips and fries for $11 and it was plenty to feed us both. They were good, definitely fresh and tasty but nothing out of this world. We didn't check yelp before visiting, just came across this little place while walking around. It was plenty crowded so I assumed it was good. And it was, no regrets. Just might have loved it if I tried the right thing.

  • Katie R.

This shack is legit. Go now! Lobster Roll and Mahi Mahi Fish Tacos are both delicious! The service is friendly and quick. Even Guy Fieri knows what's up....this place was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (apparently the New England Clam Chowder ain't bad either)! It's easy to spot on Duval Street and I'm so glad we stopped in for lunch while in Key West. The portions are just right and fill you up. They've got street view seating and more shaded seating out back with picnic benches and bar stools. The ambiance is great - very casual, beachy, and well....shack-ish. They looked to be working very hard in the kitchen where they made the food to order. The workers were fun and personable. They also offer a 10% Yelp check-in offer, not that their prices are expensive to begin with. They have a fountain machine for sodas and bottled water in the back. The tacos also came with French Fries and those were fresh, hot, and crisp. OK, that's it folks. Like I said, GO NOW! Enjoy :)

  • Anita C.

Simple place, fast service and great lobster sandwich !! ;-) Second time here for their lobster sandwiches and they were excellent again. Big chunky maine lobster meat on a toasted bun. Best lobster sandwich we've come across. The cole slaw that comes with it is also good and refreshing on a hot KW day. Sit in the back if the front is full. Small place but its just for a quick bite.

Great place. Our first stop in Key West and it was perfect. Good food and cold beers.

    (5)
  • Jim G.

The lobster roll was fantastic. My wife had shrimp tacos and they were very good too. Grab a cold one and sit out front if there's room. It's a great spot for people watching.

  • Jenn H.

Great, fast, huge portions! Perfect for a quick meal!

    (4)
  • Jim P.

Great fried clams. As a native of NE I miss having whole bellied clams but they have them here. Even the fries and cole slaw were very good. My wife had the fish tenders which were also ok. Wish I had been hungrier since many others raved about the lobster roll. Not a lot of seats but u come here for the food, not the atmosphere. Definitely recommend.

    (5)
  • Jannette P.

Our party ordered conch fritters, conch tacos, conch salad, fried shrimp and a lobster roll. Everything was very good but you MUST have the lobster roll! Amazing!! Full of lobster meat on Texas toast. Delicious!!

    (5)
  • Craig R.

Saw the good reviews so my girlfriend and I decided to check this place out. We got the overstuffed lobster roll which was like $29. It was the same size if not smaller than the lobster roll we got at Eaton Fish Market for $15. To be fair it tasted awesome but huge ripoff for the overstuff lobster roll.

    (2)
  • Veronica P.

I just didn't feel it. Went there on our first night of our 6 day stay at the Keys. Read all the reviews for this place and was really looking forward to the Lobster roll. It was ok...Plus this place was over priced. Mahi tacos was just ok and the crab cakes, nothing special, I just didn't feel it. sorry...

  • Luis E.

A hole-in-the wall that serves amazing food and where they don't really serve you. Its a weird mix between a dive bar, a hot dog stand and a fast food restaurant. So as long as you are not expecting a fine dining experience, but are in the mood for some fine food... DJ's Clam Shack is the perfect place. Prices aren't cheap, but the dishes are worth the price. I mean, Conch and Lobster are not cheap ingredients. I have had a few lobster rolls in my life, but nothing like this. It was amazing... I didn't particularly care for the tacos, but the rest of my table did. They serve beer and sangria.. I didn't really order sangria because well it just didn't look right but the beers were cold. Key West should have more places like this... its very unique and I hope they are in business for a long time.

  • German B.

Perfectly done! In order to understand how the vibe of this place is, you need to imagine a hot dog stand, put that hod dog stand inside a small shelter, add some tables and chairs, get rid of the hot dog, and instead you will get a Maine Lobster Roll... That's Dj's Clam Shack. This is the kind of place I love to go when I visit a small town; I guess that the cashier/server/cook/waiter was the owner (among two other cooks helping him); he's not very friendly, but you have to understand that kind of job under the heat... It gets you; but once you pass the ordering part, you sit down, he will bring you the food to the table and you will taste the best food you can get for no more than $15. Our idea was to hop fron restaursnt to restaurant to try differen things, this was our first and last one lol. We tried a lot of stuff and they were all dilicious! You must try: Have an iced cold beer, order the cracked conch tacos (it's spicy), garlic butter clams and two lobster rolls and share it between 3 of you. And remember to understand the guys... Not everyone is happy under heat! Lol

Stopped by to try out the clams and as a novice shellfish eater I have to say these were great! Real casual environment, friendly service and delicious clams!

  • Jacquelyn M.

Got off a cruise ship and walked here on a recommendation from a friend. Worth the walk and short wait!! Overstuffed lobster roll ($25) was delish. Served on a toasted roll with Cole slaw.clams seem to be very popular too!!! This place was featured on Diners drive-in and dives!

    (5)
  • Jim C.

Lobster roll was not heavy and full of flavor. If you're in Key West, definitely do not miss out on this place.

    (5)
  • Jonny S.

We split some clam strips and each got a Lobster roll. Yum. The roll was over-flowing with high quality just lightly dressed lobster meat. And the bun itself was nice and tasty too.

    (4)
  • Robert R.

The lobster roll. HOLY MOLY. So simple but so amazing. Craving it now and remember did not leave a review. I ate here 4 times while in Key West.

This is definitely one of the best seafood joint here in key west. The resteraunt is located in the heart of the old town and right on ducal street. We ordered the lobster roll, conch fritters and the steamed clams. All of them are so good that we ordered more for take out. The lobster is cooked perfectly, the conch fritter is perfectly cooked to a golden glaze on the outside and delicious with perfectly seasoned seafood inside. This is a very different experience from those typical over priced key west resteraunt who offer okay food with a hefty premium. I am not saying this place is inexpensive( we spent 50+ two ppl and 50+ for take out) but it is totally worth it. The down to earth dining experience is exactly what I need after a stressful week.

Be wary. Limited outdoor seating especially with mosquitoes all around. Front side seating over looking Duval Street with more tables in the back. It's a small and quaint little place with fast service. This place was so good, we came back here the next day for more! Lobster rolls were a favorite. Among that, we had fried conch strips (not the cracked conch), fried fish strips, and the jumbo fired shrimp. Everything fried to perfection although the fish strips were only slightly average. Still good though. Also ordered some clams that were amazing. French fries and cole slaw came with our entrees as well. Incredibly filling. The next day, the lobster roll was made slightly different than the day before due to different chefs/cooks but just as good still. My favorite part of the whole restaurant experience was the cracked conch accompanied by this sweet and sour sauce (tasted similar not sure what it is). Never would I have imagined combining both two together. Great combo! I definitely suggest checking out this place if you're looking for quick and friendly service with great (fried) seafood. As a person from NJ, the next time I'm around here, I will be sure to visit again! Thanks for a nice seafood experience. Edit: I meant conch fritters for the conch strips!

Looking to have some seafood while vacationing in Key West, I stumbled upon DJs. I like how the eatery was positioned on Duval st with the counter facing the road. It was great for people watching. My food was made quickly. Everything tasted fresh and was made just right.

We had to have their lobster roll and it was worth it! $17 for the amazing roll! Try one! It is a shack and only have 8 chairs but that's part of the charm.

My family and I had our first meal here in KW. It was around closing time but thankfully this place was still open! I really liked the atmosphere, with the hidden eating area in the back. Since it was close to closing time, we had the area to ourselves and it was just a nice time eating and winding down after a long way of driving. I had the lobster roll. It was really good, but it didn't really strike me as anything special, so 3 stars.

So good! If it wasn't for help I would have walked right past this place as it looks like nothing from the street. Husband really enjoyed the lobster roll and the conch fritters were great! Like the whole in the wall, key west vibe!

We had lobster roll and fried conch. Everything was fresh and was perfectly seasoned. The lobster roll was bigger than what it looks like from the menu picture. In all it deserves a 5 star.

Let me tell you first that the staff were super friendly and this is a cool place to grab a quick bite to eat. The clams were really salty but they were ok. The lobster roll was pretty good but I've had better. And the sangria wasn't very good. Disclaimer anything that has a piece of paper that says "homemade" written with a sharpie might not be very good. If I was in a rush and wanted to have decent food, I would probably stop here.

We stopped by early in the day for a lobster roll and it was amazing! Even the cole slaw was fresh! The employees were very nice. Went back for dinner and had the clam strips and the onion rings. Both fresh and VERY delicious! Our favorite stop this trip!

A bit pricey...we ordered a lobster roll, fried clam basket, bottle water and a beer and it came to $47 dollars. My husband really enjoyed the lobster roll. I thought the lobster was fishy with too much bread. The fried clams were nothing special. Don't get me wrong, the food was good, and ideal location for people watching located right on duval street.

While on Key West for 3 nights, we ate here 3 times! We kept wanting more and more lobster rolls! They were outstanding!! Currently going through withdrawal !

I would give it 10 stars if I can! Came here for dinner with a friend. First of all, although it's a stand, not a sit down restaurant, the service is impeccable. We chatted with the owner a bit, who is SO friendly. He gave us a bunch of sauces to try with the fried conch, gave us sample of his clam chowder, which was delicious. We had the lobster roll, which is probably one of the best lobster rolls I've had. The bread was perfectly toasted, and the lobster was so fresh and lightly flavored. The fried conch was delicious as well. Would HIGHLY recommend to stop by here for some food. Definitely worth it.

Do not miss it if you're in Key West. The lobster roll was jam packed with lobster and very fresh tasting. For a non seafood option the hot dogs are amazing. Coming from a New Yorker, they are cooked to perfection and the buns are a crispy, buttery heaven.

My girlfriend and I had dinner here one night on a recent trip to Key West. As the name implies, the venue is small so seating is limited. The food, especially the lobster roll, was delicious and the staff was friendly.

great small restaurant, lobster roll is the most popular food, clam is good as well. Grab a bottle of cool beer and have a lobster roll is a cool thing in the hot weather. 路边小饭馆一个,非常受欢迎,龙虾卷一定要来一个,还有鲜蛤蜊也不要错过,和朋友们喝几瓶凉啤酒,在这么热的key west也算是一种享受了。

Lobster roll incredible. Crab cakes delicious. Great sweet potato fries. This was my favorite meal in town after staying three nights. Wish I ate there more than just once.

Awesome food the overstuffed lobster roll was almost too much lobster. I was thoroughly impressed! Another diner also recommend the steamers so we added that to the order some of the best steamers I have ever had. Small front bar to sit at and a few picnic tables around back. Also checkout the conch ceviche on the weekends. Awesome!

Walking down Duval street we see this unassuming little place to have clams. As we walked by, the people sitting at the bar told us this place had the best clams so my husband and I, of coarse had to try. They were just closing but we're kind enough to let us in for a quick bowl of steamed clams. Best decision ever! I have never had such an amazing dish. The service exceeded my expectations. The food was amazing. If you pass by this place, your missing out if you don't stop in and try the food. Enjoy!

Skip it. There are better places for the money. My son liked the fish fingers and the hot dog. Conch fritters were NOT good. Fish tacos have jalapenos in them, beware. Free soda refills is nice. It's a shack so the seating area is not great. But the service is good.

Just so you know, I am from NYC, where I have Luke's Lobster, allegedly one of the best lobster rolls and am convinced after this trip that it is definitely one of the best. Anyways, I ordered pretty much everything; lobster rolls, oysters, fried clams, conch fritters, and some beer. Starting off, I had Yuengling draft beer, which came out lukewarm. It would've been nice if it was cold, since there's no indoor space with AC on; yes, you just sit under the blazing sun with a giant fan blowing ur hair everywhere. Moving on to lobster rolls, it was ok. Not worth the money though. I am way happier with Luke's lobster in NYC. For oysters, they were nice. If you are an oyster fan, I'd say give it a try. For the conch fritters, DO NOT GET THEM HERE. The conch bits inside the dough were very hard and chewy, unlike the ones I had from 3 other places. AND! For the money paid, I got like 4 fritters on a pile of fries. Hmmm... At this point, I am thinking, NYC ain't that expensive!!! The best part of the meal was the fried clams. This one is definitely worth trying; the 2 stars are solely for the clams. You can really taste the clams and I loved it. Overall, to be honest, I was quite a bit disappointed with the whole meal and the only thing worth trying i found was the fried clam basket. PERIOD. And to other yelpers who contributed to giving this place 4.5 stars, seriously?!?!?! This place isn't worth 4.5 stars at all.

OMG! What a find. After a day at the beach we pulled up on our bikes. We ordered the famous lobster rolls they were amazing and really stuffed!! The steamed clams were delicious too. Ordered a couple of cold Corona's and we were in heaven. You have to try this place. Totally coming back next trip.

On a hot, muggy day, a cold beer and some great fun at DJs Clam Shack is a wondrous find. According to my wife, the lobster roll alone is worth a five star review! The beer was ice cold and the conch fritters were fresh and tasty. Great place for a good lunch and a break from the craziness of Duval Street.

We ordered the lobster roll and the garlic bread. They were both delicious. There was tons of lobster and the roll was hot and buttery. The garlic bread was also very good. A great snack! The outdoor seating area was nice and the bathrooms were very clean.

DJs is delicious. I've tried out pretty much all of their menu, which isn't hard to do, and I will tell you that lobster rolls and sangria are the bomb. Clams were ok, but small portion.

Another hole in the wall for when you are craving fried seafood beach fare. Found it as it was featured on diners, drive-ins, and dives. There are seats in the front on Duval for people watching and more seats in the back. Ordered: - Lobster roll - there's also the overstuffed ones for bigger appetites - served on buttery toasted bread NE style - Mahi tacos - favorite dish - these are large sized tacos with fried mahi coleslaw and the usual sauce -Cracked Conch served with seasoned fries or $2.50 upgrade for sweet potato fries -Fried Clam Strips served with seasoned fries - can pass on this one and do just conch - Clams in garlicky wine broth - also delicious - wished there was more bread to sop up the broth and liked that it is cooked with jalapeños for a kick

Excellent choice! Lobster roll is unmatched! Mahi Mahi tacos are better than any I have had including any on the west coast and Hawaii! Great food all the way around! Must try if you are in Key West!

  • Giao C.

Wow! Lobster roll lived up to its hype. If it wasn't for the other reviews on Yelp, I may have overlooked this place on busy Duval. Highly recommend. If you can snag a seat in front (very limited) - you can enjoy yummy food and people watch!

Greatest. Lobser roll. ever. Best I've ever had! Huge chunks of meat, not too much mayo, and the rolls were lightly sweet and toasted to perfection. Also had the fried conch, that was pretty good too but a little too much fry and not enough conch. Casual outdoor seating, reminds me of eating out on the docks. It was a perfect way to end an evening of light bar hopping and exploring.

Perfect lobster roll! It was out fast and the staff was excellent. Didn't know Guy Fieri had stopped here but he's obv got good taste at this place!

Full lobster roll is fantastic and can't be beat. The chunks of lobster are full and mouthwatering. My wife and I split the large roll portion along with a side of sweet potato fries. Grab a few brews and head out back to the patio. Don't go to imitators. Stick with DJs for a nice snack on Duval Street.

Clam chowder to die for...so glad they are back open! Only problem if you live here parking is a problem...like all other places but sure worth the hunt for a space.

Nice little shack with outdoor seating only. Luckily, when we stopped by the weather was nice. I tried the lobster roll, and I have to say it was great. Not sure about anything else on the menu though, since I wasn't that hungry and only had room for the lobster roll.

  • Katie F.

Got the conch fritters and chicken tenders. Hubby liked the conch fritters and the chicken tenders were really good. The guy at the register was super nice and seemed to go above and beyond for customers, like offering to add a ton of dips to our to-go bag.

    (5)
  • Rob S.

Amazing little place on Duval street! Not too expensive, great food. I had the crab cakes (only $10 for two biscuit-sized ones) and the beer battered onion rings. The crab cakes were great! I wish I had gotten two orders. The onions rings were nothing spectacular. They were good, but not something I would come back specifically for. Service was fast. With only 2-3 in the kitchen, we had all our food within ten minutes for a party of eleven. Eating area is outside with plenty of shade. However, I would not come on a humid or hot day. My shorts are starting to stick to my legs.

Absolutely deserve it. So fresh and delicious lobster roll. Love the freshness of their seafood. We sat down at the front of the restaurant the street view. It was so local. Love it. Love it. Love it. Love it.

Great food from a cool place. The outdoor dining area had an atmosphere that was a mix of Caribbean island restaurant and northeastern fish house. The food was very good. We ordered the famous lobster roll. It definitely lived up to the hype. The lobster was fresh, tasty, and abundant. The celery gave it a coolness and crunch. I typically don't care for celery but it was great here. The bread was also very good and well toasted/buttered. The fries were crispy and delicious. This is a definite "must go" for a quick, casual lunch/dinner in key west. The price is a little steep, but for the quality and quantity of food you get it is well worth it.

The food=4 stars The service=2 stars I guess that averages to 3 stars. I'm from California so I travelled across the country and wanted to try this place based on yelp reviews. 4 of us drove and walked around until we found it and then ordered 80 dollars worth of food. I paid, walked to the back and realized oh! There is a yelp check in offer of 10% off. I quickly run back to the register (were the only ones there right now) to let the guy know and he's pretty much like "too late". I mean he was nice and explained that he had already rung it up and its too confusing and what not but i at least felt like he could have offered us a soup or something. It wasn't even a minute ago that he rung up my order. Anyway, the food is good and the lobster roll was great! I personally prefer Boston lobster rolls to this but if I'm ever in the key west again, I'd come back. IL just remember to redeem the check in offer (if they still have it then)

First place I ate when I got to Key West. Definitely greasy, but thats what you want when you are hungry/drunk/hungover. Guys were really nice at the counter and the courtyard in the back is a nice area to sit.

Excellent fried fish and shrimp. Only outdoor seating and it is limited. Nice sized portions. Friendly staff

I agree with Jason from VA. I had the same jerk wait on me. Maybe being from New England, we get spoiled for seafood, but I can't think of a single reason to go back there after trying the overpriced, over cooked Clam Roll. There are way too many good alternatives in Key West.

    (1)
  • My-Oanh N.

I had the steamed clams ($12)! They were perfectly cooked in garlic and jalepinos. My boyfriend had the fried shrimp which were good but pretty pricey. You get six fried shrimp over a basket of fries for $12. The clam chowder was very well seasoned and yummy.

The excellent reviews were the primary reason why we chose this place for lunch, but it turned out a bit disappointing. Firstly, the nearest parking is at little distance on Duval for around $5 an hour. From the street, DJ's looks like a take-away place, but there's limited seating in a backside patio. Since our group was large, we decided to eat elsewhere, and I only asked for clam fritters and a beer which came to $18.5. I was glad to see huge cone filled with freshly fried clams, but dug in for sometime only to find too many potato fries underneath. Frankly, I loved the way clams were done, so I was pissed to see this. And it took a good 20 minutes to get these done, and the guy at the counter didn't really put on a friendly face. Over-worked maybe.

After checking in to the hotel, we headed straight to DJ's for our first meal in Key West. Luckily for us, we got there just before they closed. We ordered a pair of the lobster rolls and a side of sweet potato fries and got 10% off for checking in Yelp! The lobster roll consists of a toasted, buttery texas toast cradling a heaping mound of meaty lobster claws. The lobster salad is simply seasoned with a right amount of mayonnaise, tarragon, and small chunks of celery. It was served with a side of coleslaw. Even before we finished, my husband commented he wanted to come back and have it again the next day. It's that good. The sweet potato fries were also very good. For $4.95, we got a big basket of fries served with an aioli. More than enough for two people to share. As we were enjoying the lobster rolls sitting at the counter looking out onto Duval street, about 5 parties came by but were turned away as the owners were closing up. We must have been good advertisement for the restaurant. When we got there, there were no other customers. But once we sat down and started eating, all the passersby wanted to come in and order. We must have made the lobster rolls look so delicious. And they were! Bon appetit!

  • Richard B.

Best Lobster roll I ever had in my life. Nice sized sandwich filled with big pieces of Maine Lobster. Also have nice conch fritters. Not all bread like some places. As the name of the place implies, this is a shack. You order at the counter and can grab a bench facing Duval, or in the back patio. They make everything to order and are pretty small. A lot of people hoping to get the lobster roll were turned away because the cook ran out and was making more.

  • Reesie R.

This is a small 'shack' type place with a cute patio out back. Food is great. My husband had shrimp tacos, I had fish tacos, with fries and cole slaw. Everything we had was delicious and tasted fresh. I was a little surprised by the batter they use, I am used to Mexican fried fish, this is more southern, which meant that the batter was well spiced and flavorful. It wasn't cheap, but the portions were so large that we skipped dinner. Service was great.

  • Oana V.

This place sums up Key West. You cannot vacation there without eating at The Clam Shack! Everything we tried was delicious. Service was great as well. Lobster role, conch salad and the bisque, conch fritters, and fish tacos. GET ALL OF THEM!

I was craving for some conch fritters while walking down the strip "Duval st" of Key West. We fell up upon this place and said lets give it a try. The food was great. There's no inside seating area, there's a small seating area outside. It's just a spot to crab and go. You can switch up your regular fries for sweat potato fries.

AMAZING!!! Went on a cruise with the boyfriend and our first port was Key West. After a day of walking all over the place, we looked on Yelp to find a place for lunch. This was in walking distance from where we were so we decided to go, plus who could say no to lobster rolls?! It is just a small shack, just like it says in the name "DJs clam SHACK". Of course, like everyone on yelp suggested, we ordered the lobster roll and conch fritters. Although the place is small (then again, it's a shack), we found a seats in the back where the chickens roamed. After just 10-15 minutes, our food came out fresh and absolutely delicious. The lobster roll had huge chunks of fresh lobster in a toasted garlic bread. I noticed people didn't like that the bread was too buttery or oily, but that's exactly what makes it good. But then again, I'm a fatty. The conch fritters were really good too. You might not want to trust my judgment because this is the first time I've ever had them, but every other restaurant in Key West made them, so most must make them the same way, right?... Anyways, they were tender and had such great flavor, plus they came with yummy fries! I'm addicted to fries and cannot resist, so I loved it. This was the best part of our stop at Key West and I definitely recommend it.

I went here on a trip I made with the boyfriend. It was a short one day trip. After a day of walking around and having some beers. We were famished from the trip. We decided to look up places to have some good conch fritters I was in the mood. After searching yelp we came across this little jem. This place was sent from heaven not for the conch fritters they weren't that special. But i am referring to this place as a jem because of the lobster roll! It is Fantastic. The buttered bum is perfection sliced ontop to carry an enourmous amount of lobster. It was overflowing with lobster. Towards the back is a sitting area that is very romatic and shaded. They brought out our food and began to dig in. The lobster came in tossed in mayo but just the right amount to cover the lobster slightly. It came with fries on the side but im not a huge french fry person. The roll will require all of your attention anyways. I suggest you stop in for one of these. You will not be disapointed.

Very good lobster roll... Rivals those in New England. The bun was perfectly buttered and toasted to perfection. The prices were very affordable too.

Fantastic lobster rolls, served fast and fresh with ice cold coronas on the back patio. It doesnt hurt that we were the only people here at around dinner time - since it was day after labor day. Conch fritters were solid - but the sauce they came with - put them over the top. Overall great experience - and will be one of the first places I go next time i'm in KW.

  • Carolyn A.

Yummmmmmmm me! I love lobster rolls and had heard I needed to check out DJ's. And I am happy to say what I heard was right! Buttery roll loaded up with lobster chunks. I think it's a good thing for me I live an hour away as I have wanted one everyday now. (we went a few days ago) The street side seats were all taken so we sat on the back patio which was complete with entertainment - a bunch of baby chicks - they helped complete my day. My only complaint was that I split a lobster roll instead of getting my own. Never again will I split one. Get your own!

    (5)
  • Oscar P.

When the best part of a lobster roll is the bread, you know you have problems. The lobster lacked flavor and the sandwich was way overpriced. The fried clams were pretty good, but nothing to write home about. I expected much more from this place.

    (2)
  • Michael M.

Lobster roll is delicious. The overstuffed version is 1/2 lb vs 1/4 pound for normal. Go big or go home i say! The chicken fingers appear to be actual chicken breast breaded and fried as opposed to frozen. It would have gotten 5 stars but the onion rings had way too much batter and the batter itself was almost sweet. I prefer more of a peppery/savory batter.

Love this shack! Cute, little place on Duval St with great people viewing. The food is exceptional and for reasonable prices. I had crab cakes one afternoon & peel n eat shrimp another. Both awesome! Go here!

Great little spot to stop by and check out while in Key West. Good location to eat and people watch daily. Pork sand which was very good. The clams were amazing and worth buying, only negative comment would be that when we were there for a month visiting they seemed to be out of clams more than they actually had them available which was very disappointing.

This is on Duval st. Hole in the wall but, don't let that fool you. They have seafood options like shrimp, lobster roll, fish sandwich, clams... Polite staff. 2 tables in front facing Duval st, some tables in the back. We split a nice porgtion of coconut shrimp and walked down the street with them. They were nice and hot. Delicious...

The lobster roll was awesome! The bread was a perfect pair to the lobster. I also had the clam appetizer which was not as good as the L roll.

  • Michael P.

Go for the clams and perhaps the shrimp. I had oysters and clam on half shell, oysters are by far my FAVORITE food... Sooo, I will say I'm very picky about my oysters. If you are as picky as I then you may leave this place with the same feeling I had, which was..."the clams were amazing and the oysters were eatable but not the best I've ever had". The shrimp looked amazing so I'm sure they would be. I would return to DJ's clam shack but I would simply have just the clams and perhaps try the shrimp too, next time. Oh & Service was very friendly

  • Andrea J.

Definitely need to order the fish tacos! They were so good! If you are hungry, this is the place to go. Two huge fish tacos filled with lightly-breaded fish, cabbage and sauce. French fries come with the tacos.

After seeing all the glowing reviews, I decided to try this place. I have eaten the fried clams, the lobster roll, and the conch fritters. The Lobster roll is the best item (quite good) and it is worth a try. The fried clams were marginal at best, and the conch fritters were OK. It was fun sitting in one of the six stools in front of the "Shack" that face Duval Street. Note that there is a somewhat hidden patio in the back with more seating. Great for people watching. The staff are friendly.

  • Laura D.

If you are in Key West, you MUST try this place. Get the New England Clam Chowder. It will be the best seafood soup you'll ever have in your life. I'm craving it right now. Our friends invited us here because they are huge fans of the lobster sandwich. My fiance and I also ordered a lobster sandwich, and in our amazement is came out cold. We assumed that the dish would be a hot warm lobster sandwich, but it's meant to be cold. This totally threw off our taste buds. The seating is very limited. Only about 2-4 tables for seating. It's literally a SHACK, just like the name describes. Go check it out and get the soup. You will thank me later.

Friendly, and more importantly...delicious, to tourist and local alike. Walk up, order some conch fritters or a lobster roll, grab a beer and have a seat. The front patio has about four stools overlooking the street as you eat. I recommend that if possible. There is a back patio with a large table if nothing up front. You order through a window on the front patio and the service is awesome. The food is awesome. I made it my first stop after checking in (well, after a bar of course) and I felt immediately immersed in my vacation. Lastly, even though I didn't mind possibly being ultra-touristy there every customer after me were locals grabbing a quick lunch. That is always a good sign.

The reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because the Lobster Roll was absolutely amazing!!! I love how refreshing it was on a hot day, the cold lobster meat on a hot buttered toasted roll! YUM!! Left me wanting to go back and have another one!!! this is another great spot to people watch if you are able to grab a seat in the front. The place itself is nothing out of this world, the rest of the food is pretty average, just regular key west food, conch fritters, clams, deep fried shrimp, etc... all things you will find at all other restaurants, the lobster roll is what really makes this place stand out from the others.

Fabulous Mahi Mahi tacos (HUGE!) and great lobster rolls. My family and I loved this bit of authentic Key West, and the food was great.

I got the Maine Lobster Roll, and the lobster tasted so great!!! So was the bread! Can't love it more!!!!

3 words to describe this place: yum, yum, and YUM! By far the best lobster roll I've ever had in Florida, being that I'm from south fl and you hardly see any places that sell lobster rolls down there. Even at other places that I have had lobster rolls, I never could taste the lobster itself, but at dj's, you can actually taste and SEE chunks of lobster in the sandwich, not to mention the buttery toasty roll it sits on! We also got the crack conch and fries, fried to perfection with the perfect amount of seasoning! The conch salad is to die for as well! There are nice chunks of sweet, fresh conch meat! What is better?! A must stop if you want fresh seafood!

OK, their fish tacos blew me away. And I went on a fish taco tour of Texas back when I lived there. But this was perhaps the finest fish shack I experienced while in Florida, with the best fish tacos. They might be better termed as burritos, they're that large. But you're going to eat them, each and every bite, because the fish is so good and the sauce is just obscenely good. My partner in crime had a fried fish sandwich, and he allowed it to set the bar for all other fish sandwich experiences for the rest of our trip. I'm not sure anything ever reached it. The fries that accompany things are very good, and the portions are more than generous on those, too. Really, you could likely share one meal without a problem, but that would sort of ruin the fun of trying different things. Beyond that, DJ's is right on the main strip, so it can get a little overwhelmed. But the teensy garden seating out back is pleasant, and they keep the fans on high so you're not going to roast. The price is not bad, and things certainly come out quickly enough that even if you're a little cramped at a side bar seat, you won't feel too bad. And the food will be so, so worth it, I promise.

We stopped here following yelps recommendations and were pretty happy with the result. The lobster roll was AMAZING!!! I would go back and order 10 more of those. Crab cake was good, conch was good, steamed mussels were great. Get the lobster!

This is the real deal for Florida Conch Salad and the lobster roll is the best i have ever had! ....Excellent flavor of the South ....I can hear the rustle of the palm frond's and feel the Florida breeze with every bite!!!!

  • Adrian B.

Sit out front and enjoy the shade and breeze. Key West at its best!! Lobster tasted like being back in Kennebunkport Maine where I have been staying for vacations for over 20 years. The fried clams were mouth watering good with a crunch outside and a soft gooey centre. This was a gem of a place. Best Lobster in Key West!

Fish Tacos! I've eaten them here, I've eaten them there but never have I ever eaten fish tacos as good as here! Just a shack on touristy Duval street but worth it!

  • David S.

I went to this place twice because of the high ratings on Yelp. The first time I had the overstuffed lobster roll (a lot of lobster meat) and the fried clams (not much for the money, mostly french fries) the second time. The food was good both times, the staff is friendly, but it is literally a shack. Overall the biggest hurdle from keeping this place from being a 4-star is simply price.

This hole in the wall has amazing food! Shrimp tacos were fantastic. You cannot go wrong for a very casual dinning experience!

  • Sabrina T.

Ordered the lobster roll and the conch fritters. The lobster roll was humongous and the meat was really tasty. I'm just not a fan of anything too buttery/oily/fried and I thought the bread was too buttery. Conch fritters were interesting. First time I had it but I'm not really sure what I was tasting. But presentation was nice and portion was big. Fries that come with the conch fritters were good.

Lobster roll was amazing . Had oysters on the half shell but they were kind of pricey. They have a good location right on Duval street where you can see all the crazy people walk by.

  • Christie C.

Love their Lobster Roll. Went back the second day to get more. They toasted the bread with butter, makes it smell very good and a little bit crunchy on the outside. For $13 dollar, they give you a lot of lobster (even though most of the lobster meats are from the lobster leg not the lobster body). The staff are friendly and down to earth. They even remember us when we went back the second day.

    (5)
  • Jenn B.

Lobster roll was amazing! I have to admit it was my first one so I have nothing to compare it to but I would definitely get it again! I wasn't sure what the difference was between conch fritters and conch nuggets so I got a run-down from the chef. You can also sit facing the street and people watch.

Allow me to preface: this review is based on conch fritters and fries only. My fiance and I live in the Boston area and felt weird ordering anything that had to do with clams or Maine lobster. So we just split on order of the aforementioned, The atmosphere is cute. It's right on Duval, but we sat out in back - small, outdoorsy with some fun signs. Good to chill out and have a beer while waiting for your food. We were the only ones out back at the time, which was nice. The conch fritters weren't too hard/crispy on the outside like others we've had on the island. They were moist on the inside and had a speckling of veggies and spices. Couldn't really discern any conch, but overall, flavor was good. Fries were decent. A good place to stop if you're munchy after moseying up and down Duval.

Stopped in on NYE and everything was amazing! They were running on a limited menu, understandably, since it was a busy holiday. When we mentioned wanting steamers, chef Mark immediately offered to make them special order since business had slowed for a few minutes. He was super friendly and told us there was more seating in the back that would be clearing up shortly. We ordered a few different things: clam strips, conch fritters, shrimp, and chowder. Mark was so nice, he brought out each item as it was ready. And let me tell you about the clam chowder... which was amazing! We travel frequently to New England so we certainly consume our fair share of chowder. The chowder was absolutely delicious and we will definitely be back!

If you're looking for damn good cracked conch or Maine lobster rolls, this is the spot! Definitely going back to DJ's the next time we're in the Keys!.

  • Justin C.

Went based on reviews from here. Incredible. Went for lunch, the person taking out order was one of the nicest people to ever take my order, and 1 of the other employees was extremely nice also, they seemed to very into making sure you were happy. Food - we all ordered the same, Maine Lobster rolls with fries, 1 was sweet potato fries. Let me tell you, this was absolutely delicious, i cant rave enough at how good this was, the lobster was fresh, cooked to perfection, and the bread was a perfect pairing. the fries were shoestring and very good as well, so were the sweet potato fries. Easily worth a second trip. Small front porch, maybe seating for 6 total, but there is a very small back porch with room for up to 10 people. Might get crowded at dinner, but if spending time in KW, you must order some food from here.

Not big on mayo-ed up lobster rolls? Me neither, UNTIL DJ's. Here's what to do... Get the lobster roll. The hunks of lobster are meaty, tender, and divine. (I picked the celery off mine, because I detest celery). Also get the jalapeño garlic littleneck clams. Now, dump some of the spicy, garlicky broth over the lobster in your roll. It washes some of the mayo off, and adds a serious extra kick of garlic goodness. We ate here two days in a row, 'cause it really is that good! Not to mention, if you snag a seat at the front counter facing Duval, there's always great people-watching. ;)

We were lucky enough to run into DJ's Clam Shack.....What a wonderful find. The lobster roll was delicious...every bite from the yummy lobster to the fabulous roll. The clams with bellies were wonderful too...just wish there were more. Best food we'd had in a while!!!

This place is great! As a vegetarian/mostly vegan, sometimes vacation spot can be unfriendly for dining, but this clam shack did not disappoint me or my omnivore husband. He had a hankerin' for fried shrimp, so we investigated on Yelp and we ended up here. His shrimp were delicious (according to him), and my salad was much more than I anticipated: mixed greens, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, with a homemade key lime vinaigrette on the side. This was my favorite salad in Key West simply because it was so unexpected. The man behind the counter also pointed me in the direction of possibly the best pina colada I have ever had. My husband got a beer from the shack, and so I wouldn't be left out, the gracious man told us to head over to Mangoes to pick up a drink while our food was prepared. Man, that was a delicous pina colada! Great experience! P.S. The ladies next to us had lobster rolls that looked amazing! They said they were better than the lobster rolls in Cape Cod!

  • Julio M.

The Maine lobster roll is wonderful. It comes overloaded with lobster in a decent sized toasted and buttery Texas toast. I have one every time I visit Key West. The place is a shack but there are a few seats up front which are superb for checking out the action on Duval Street. There are also plenty of seats out back.

  • Cindy G.

Friend and I had a conch fritters taste test...CJ's won. We also had B.O.'s and the fritter truck by the aquarium. CJ's wins for the tenderness of conch chunks, nice texture of the dough, and little flecks of veg mixed in. The dipping sauce was yummy too. My fish tacos were also very tasty, with just the right amount of zing in the cabbage salad. Anyplace that serves Yuengling draft will always get my vote too. Excellent people watching from the two front seating areas.

  • Jonathan I.

Lobster roll for the win!!!!! This little awesome hole in the wall is a MUST! Every time we go to Key West we stop by and have our fresh main lobster roll with cole slaw. The bun is perfectly toasted and jammed full of lobster which is tossed perfectly in mayonase and celery, crisp, tasty and satisfying!

    (5)
  • Lily L.

Great little shack with a walk up window. I had the fried shrimp w/ fries. Shrimp was big and deliciously crispy. I also had the best clam chowder of my life!!! Customer service is fantastic. So are the prices & the presentation of the food.

Every time I'm in Key West I have to stop by and get a Lobster Roll. By far the best lobster roll south of the mason dixon line.

  • Nick M.

It has been said before but I will gladly repeat it for Yelp! If you are in Key West you have to take time to visit this place!!! It is a rusty little shack but they serve great food! This is not a fancy place, just walk up to the window, order your food, pay and wait a few minutes for heaven to be served on a plate!! Conch fritters... excellent! Clam chowder...OMG this is beyond excellent...soo damn good! Probably the best I EVER HAD French Fries ..... excellent! Sweet Potato Fries...excellent! Lobster roll, it was good but not what I was expecting because it was cold and I thought it would be served hot. Considering this is actually a shack there is not much seating but it is usually enough because a lot of people order food and take it with them. I highly recommend you visit this place when you are in Key West!!!

  • B T.

It was REALLY good, but the lobster was lacking. Idk I saw all the pics people posted and those have to be for the double stuffed one. We spent $38 after tip for two lobster rolls and a drink. I wish I would have known that it was average for the price.

This is a cant miss every time we go to Key West, before the Duval crawl, after or anytime in between. A great little spot on the quieter side of Duval Street, near the intersection with Truman. My wife and I shared an overstuffed lobster roll - as always, better than we have had in New England - the bun is hot and perfect and the sandwich absolutely the greatest. Huge chunks of fresh, sweet lobster - no too much mayo - the side of slaw is also terrific. Say hi to kevin (we told him that we would send our friends again) and let him know his friends from Maryland will be back1

    (5)
  • Julie B.

If you like lobster rolls than this is the place to go. I am telling you the overstuffed lobster roll is to die for, it beats and New England lobster roll I have ever had. If you visit Key West don't walk bye Dj's Clam shack without getting one. From the buttery roll to the large pieces of fresh lobster brought in fresh from New England, this is perfection!

    (5)
  • Ivan J.

Everything a clam shack should be. Small. Fast. Fun. Cheap! I'm on a strict diet and asked for a plain mahi-mahi. Even though mahi didn't even appear on the menu, they had no problem [happily] whipping it up for me. Best thing, 5 dollars got me the very same plate I paid $18 and $30 the day before at Coral Crab and Alonzo's. The tiny "front porch" gets full pretty quick. There's a cool patio however in the back w/ plenty of fans.

Great lobster rolls!! I will go back as often as possible! Kevin was friendly & helpful!

Born and raised in New Hampshah where the seafood's the best and always fresh, and now living in NYC where he food options are endless, I've been pretty spoiled. But DJs Clam Shack is LITRALLY (Parks and Rec?) the best seafood I've ever had. The lobster roll blew my mind, and we were luck enough to claim the back area to ourselves. The people who work here are the sweetest. Sad that they don't open at 9am-- otherwise we would've made this our last stop on the way out of Key West.

    (5)
  • Jess P.

Love the set-up; you walk up and order and there are just 6 stools to sit at. Luckily, 2 were available for us! We got raw oysters and lobster rolls. The oysters were delicious! Lobster roll - lobster is sandwiched between two pieces of Texas toast and they kinda skimp on the lobster. For $12.95 for just the sandwich, I expect a hearty amount of lobster. But only the top half of the sandwich contains lobster so it LOOKS full. Sneaky. It was good, but I've had better in New England. Overpriced, but what do you expect in Key West?

    (3)
  • SD C.

Lobster roll and fried clams. Plenty of lobster on the standard lobster roll and they have an over stuffed version as well. Guy Fierri ate here in early January so it was pretty cool to see it on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives after our vacation.

  • Mike S.

Lobster roll + beer + outdoor seating = ALL GOOD! My wife and i were walking along Duval and decided it was time for some seafood and beer. Maybe i was swooned by the key west weather and vibe but I could have stayed there all day. The lobster roll had generous portions of crab chunks on a toasted bread. Even without the " extra stuffed " option it was more than enough. It's a great place to sit down and eat. If you expect nothing more then you'll be happy. This is island food + simplicity at it's best. I thoroughly enjoyed.

    (5)
  • Jay D.

Excellent, fresh and not heavy. Light mayo, toasted and buttered bread and stuffed with chunks of lobster. We'll go back again. Outdoor tables - not alot so you may not get a table if crowded. It was recommended by another tourist at our hotel

The lobster roll will change your life!!!

  • Becca Q.

When looking for a light afternoon snack, the lobster roll is delicately seasoned with celery bits and the fish tacos are hand breaded and huge. Don't let the breading on the fish scare you - it lets the sauce soak in which is what really enhances the tacos.

  • Kerry W.

You need to go here if you are in southern FL. The food is fresh and fast and gives you a good dose of the Keys. Don't forget to get an order of onion rings with whatever fare you choose; you won't be disappointed. The guys are nice and patient despite the crowds and heat, so be sure to tip.

  • Weichu C.

The restaurant is cute and I had over stuffed lobster roll and a beer. Because I tried lobster rolls in Boston and in New York a lot of times. The roll here is just okay. Not so special, and the price is a little bit higher than other rolls I've tried before.

Overstuffed lobster rolls are well worth the price you will not be disappointed! Maple mayonnaise with the sweet potato fries is to die for! Thank you for a great meal!

  • L C.

Came here because it was mentioned on Triple D. Lobster roll was good with quite a bit of lobster meat. My husband ordered the mahi taco and it came with 2 huge ones and fries. A great deal! The conch fritters were pretty good too. However, this place is not air conditioned. It was tough to truly enjoy a meal while sweat was rolling down our face.

  • Sam L.

Get the LOBSTER ROLLS, overstuffed of course. You basically get 2 servings of lobster meat on the same roll when you get it overstuffed for $10 extra ($25 instead of $15) and it is definitely worth it. Open from 11:30am until 10pm. We weren't too crazy about their conch fritters (with fries) or their drink options. Definitely grab a drink somewhere else (like the $15 pineapple drink down the road, or coffee across the street). There is usually a long line during peak hours (lunch/dinner) but fairly accessible at other times. There is a small seating area in the back and a few chairs in the front. Definitely grab the chairs in the front if you can, so you can watch the same people who watch you devour the delicious lobster meat. Lick your lips for extra effect.

  • Brook Y.

Oh my god. Yelp, you didn't let me down! On our first night in Key West, after an appetizer and some drinks, we took what seemed like an endless walk down Duval to find DJ's. I was relieved to find Corona Lights there, as I was parched! It''s a casual, walk-up location with seating outside in the front and back. We ordered the mahi fish tacos and the lobster roll based on pictures and reviews. They were both so good! The lobster roll is literally bursting with massive, tender chunks of delicious seafood on a soft roll. The fish tacos were perfectly cooked and seasoned, crispy and tender fish complemented by the accompanying slaw. I want to go back...

I had lobster roll for lunch. Lobster was very tasty. Perfect location on Duval street.

  • Whitney W.

This is definitely a little shack that has a few places to seat but needless to say that is enough for what they are doing. My friend got the Lobster roll and absolutely loved it. I did try a bite and the lobster was so fresh. I had fried clams and absolutely loved it. I do think the prices were kinda high as it cost $10 for fries and fried clams. No drinks are included and they do not have ranch. I would suggest the clams 100% and would love to have them again. ENJOY!

Dj's clam is one of my favorite places to eat, their clams and amazing. Don't just get the clam strips get the bellies. They have the best lobster roll that I have ever had. It's amazing. Hunks of lobster. I even love their coleslaw. Don't miss Dj's

Been here twice in two days it's amazing and the over stuffer lobster roll ( get in butter instead of mayo mix) is freaking amazing. Worth every penny !

Wow do not put 10% off if you check in on Yelp if it comes with a side of attitude. I tríed to go to Garrabos grill and they were clósed for 2 Weeks. So this place popped up. The lobster roll Was good lots of claw meet. So that came with a bit to much cartilage for me. The bread Was really good I just get turned off with people serving my $16 sándwich that arent plesant.

  • Michele E.

I'd like to start by saying that my husband is a chef and we're serious about where we eat! There's nothing worse than being disappointed after a meal. And I've gotta say that DJ's was such a pleasant surprise! Yes, it's hot and it really is a shack and therefore, there's only outdoor seating. So if this is a problem, TAKE IT TO GO! But you can't come to Key West and not try DJ's Clam Shack! The fresh squeezed lemonade was delicious and the lobster rolls were ohhhhh so good! The lobster was tender and chunky with just enough mayonnaise sauce and the roll itself was toasted just right! The fried clams were incredible and I don't even eat clams! Even their hot dogs are good! We also had the conch fritters and they were fried perfectly and not greasy at all! We were also lucky enough to have the whole place to ourselves so although the back seating area was hot, it was nice to have our choice in seating. And I was really surprised at how clean the place is, given that it's outside. We're going back again tomorrow, this place was THAT good! A+++++ Update: We went back today and got our order to go because it was just way too hot! And the food was just as good, if not better! We were ecstatic to find they're consistent. We ordered the same thing we got yesterday but also added fish fingers and sweet potato fries. Both were amazing. I'm thinking those were the best sweet potato fries i've ever had!

Really loved DJ's Clam Shack! This small hole in the wall spot is located right on the popular Duval Street, but you might miss it because it's shaded nicely and covered up like every great hidden secret. The theme behind it is Northeastern style seafood brought down to the South. With a bevy of options like fried clams, conch fritters, lobster rolls, and more, DJ's is really one of the best options for New England style seafood in all of Florida, let alone the Keys. I had to order the Ipswich Fried Clams Basket ($18) and the (Overstufed!) Lobster Roll ($25). I had to get the clams because they were whole bellied fried clams, which are pretty uncommon. They offer clam strips, but the belly is where all the flavor is (if you're a big fan of clams that is). The breading was good, but because of the juice of the clams, it can get soggy if not eaten right away. That Overstuffed Lobster Roll was incredible. The price tag was as hefty as this sandwich. It is supposed to be roughly 1.5lbs of lobster meat stuffed into this poor Boston hot dog roll that could barely support the amount of meat. The lobster meat was nice, succulent, and a bit tangy. The roll was buttery and combined, it really made for a pretty kickass sandwich. You have to order up at the window and then take a seat out on the patio in the front (with only about 5 chairs), or move down the hall to a backyard style patio with several tables (for larger parties). The clams were OK but I probably wouldn't get them again. That lobster roll is insane and worth a try if you're down to blow $25.

We typically make DJ's a part of our routine when we are in Key West. This trip was no different. We stopped in for what we thought was a quick snack one afternoon, but the portion ended up being so huge that it turned out to be dinner. Situated in the heart of Duval street, their location couldn't possibly be better. You order at the counter and they have a patio in the front facing Duval if you want to do some people-watching and they have a more secluded patio out back if you want something more private. The food is very good. They do fresh seafood very well. They only lost a star on this one because they discontinued their delicious peel and eat shrimp. Come on, it's Key West....what's up with that? I did give their Mahi Mahi tacos a try this go-around. They were great (and huge). For a snack, we could have just gotten one order and split it. Their fries are also delicious and they have malt vinegar which is one of my favorite french fry toppings. As mentioned above, you order at the counter and the staff is always friendly. Usually takes about 5 minutes for them to call you up for your food. Price-wise, it's a bit steep for ordering at a counter, but the food is good and it's fresh, so definitely not a deal breaker. If you find yourself hungry in this area, this is your place.

Absolutely the best Lobster Roll! Hands down on par with Maine lobster rolls. Celery and light mayo sauce on a sweet bread are phenomenal. Conch fritters are fresh as well.

  • Short K.

This is my 3rd time visiting. This time I had the conch fritters and chowdah. They were prepared well. I would say the breading did over power the small portion of the conch, but all in all it was tasty. The chowdah was tasty and plenty of potatoes and clams. Ordered a Corona but they had no lime. :( I would go back to this restaurant and recommend it to others.

  • Ernie P.

I was intrigued by the overstuffed lobster roll. The price was a little hefty but I had to have it. I think I paid 27 dollars for an overstuffed lobster roll and a drink. Let me tell you. It was worth it. Huge chunks of lobster claws and meat was music in my mouth. The roll it was in couldn't have been a better match. This roll was piled high with meat. I did not feel for one second I over paid. In fact I think I might go again tomorrow. If your in the area, do your mouth a favor and try one.

HEAVEN TOUCHING MY TASTE BUDDS. I sat in the HOT sun this afternoon while we ordered a lobster roll, fried conch and fried clams. I sprinkled lemon and ate the slaw with everything . Instant good coma and worth every penny. Never have I had the best fried FRESH sea food. Thank you!!!

  • Allen L.

Conch fritters - 3 stars here. Nothing special but good for a quick lunch. Large portion and the fries are good too. Fish tacos - These are the 4 star item. Damn that's tasty stuff! Real good, well done sirs! White fish with a thin, crisp layer of breading. The sauce may just be ketsup and mayo but it goes very well with the fish. Checkout the patio area in back, nice secluded spot with shade.

    (4)
  • Piotr U.

Everything. Is. Just. So. Delicious. If you're getting sea food at any one of the sit down restaurants, you're overpaying unless you really want the sit down style. If you are just in it for the food then come here.

At 2:00 on a Sunday, I happily ordered the fried clams, eager for some local 'street' food. At 2:30, I finally received the clams, the breading lighter in color than fried clams I've had before (assumed most are probably overcooked). They were ordinary, at best. Bland even. By 4:30 my back ached intensely. By 7:00 I was sprinting to my rented home with the worst diarrhea I've ever had. By 7:30 I started vomiting. By 11:30 pm, my body was void of undercooked clams (I got a visual...it was the clams). Health department has been notified.

We were a group of 6 this weekend in key west and we wanted sea food in a dive like place. I read through Yelp and this place received great reviews so we trusted it and came in. Okay, keep in mind we were starving, and we all ordered two main dishes, a side dish and a couple rounds of beer. Not a single item that hit our table was not great. This is not a nice sit down sea food resturant, this is a typica fresh and friend place and it is the best I have ever been to in that regard. Most people walk up to the front, order and take their food to go. but out back there are a few tables and a large picnic table that sat our enitire group with ease. I can not say enough great things about this dive shack and I will be going back here each time I am in key West. Way to go Yelp reviewers.

We were on a all out drinking and eating binge in key west. Dj's clam shack was I. Our list. Lobster roll was pure satisfaction and the steam clams were on point. Pork sandwich was tender and juicy. Thanks for the best meal we had in key west.

Can I just say that I am in love with great conch salad, and unfortunately in the US we can't find great conch salad anywhere because of regulations, etc. Well, I happily go to the Bahamas to enjoy it, and once you've had it in the Bahamas, you're spoiled and won't accept anything less than the best. I have tried it several places in Florida, thinking maybe someone had cracked the code, but I always find myself disappointed. That is, until this past weekend! DJ's not only serves up incredible ipswich clams (I'm originally from New England, these are comparable to back home) and fried shrimp, but they knock it out of the park with their conch! The Conch salad had big chunks in it! Tasty, fresh peppers and tomatoes, citrus, and just that perfect Bahamians Conch salad taste. We went back twice in the two days we were there. The cracked conch was superior. No rubbery, tough conch here! It was super tender and delicious. The guys working there were very nice and helpful. We had such a great time, it will surely be a stop on my trip every time I go back to KW, which is pretty often. Thanks so much!

Great lobster roll! If you're on Duval street, then this is a must!

Owner was extremely friendly. He will give you suggestions on what to do and where to go to have a good time for cheap. We got the lobster rolls and the mussel and they were delicious!

Delicious lobster roll! Tasty lemonade. Great service. 5 stars: Watch the action on Duval Street roll by as you stuff your face with meat and bread!

  • Ida M.

Great spot to get a quick bite before checking out the rest of the action that is Duval St. The lobster roll was simply amazing. It had large chunks of lobster meat stuffed inside, in my opinion, a perfectly toasted & buttered bread. Gosh, even that bread was good! We also ordered their conch fritters which was also great. Service was very prompt & friendly. This place is highly recommended!

There are lobster rolls...and then there are O.O lobster rolls!!!! This place falls into the later category... There are a few good places that have lobster rolls along the keys, but this place tops them all. To start off they use Maine lobsters instead of the local Spiney lobsters - the lobster meat is in large chunks with the claw meat sticking out from the ends of the sandwich. Second they use a thick piece of Texas toast "butterflied" as the bun instead of a regular baked bun. Yes...it does seem a bit traitorous to not use the local lobster in something like this, but it really does make the difference in this sandwich. The only real con about this sandwich is that since the lobster is cold, it doesn't seem as flavorful as warm, but what can you do, its suppose to be like that ;-) The pulled pork mojo sandwich is also very good. Dare I say it was better than virtually all "pork sandwiches" I've had from various Cuban restaurants in Miami. Very moist, flavorful pork with just enough mojo to balance it, top it off with the Texas Toast bun...drool..... Initially I was thinking about taking a star off, since they gave me the wrong fries (regular not sweet) - but the sandwiches made me forget about them all together.

Read great reviews for DJ's, tried it, didn't like it, figured I ordered the wrong thing and went back to give it another shot. Bad choice. Maine lobster roll was served on a roll that was very sweet. Maybe it was butter, maybe it was the bread, but whatever it was was not right. The flavor of the lobster was lost. Too bad. Ipswich clams are the whole clam (not clam strips), complete with the belly, which is gushy and can be distasteful to some. Clams had no flavor, just tasted like something cooked in oil. The sweet potato fries have no seasoning and are bland and boring. It's hard to get sweet potato fries wrong, but DJ's has done it. The maple dipping sauce is odd. How succinctly can I communicate how bad the conch fritters were? They were more like the crumbs left over in the fryer than anything truly resembling a fritter. Not sure if this was just an overcooked batch or if this is the standard, but they were terrible - inconsistent in shape, size and texture. Some were brutally overcooked, others crunchy on the outside and raw batter in the middle. If I had been dining on site, I would have sent them back. For the best conch fritters on the island, go to Conch Republic or get a crab cake from Eaton Street Seafood (perfect every time). Not sure why DJ's gets such rave reviews, but I found it to be bland, greasy and poorly prepared. Plenty of others choices in KW to get a better fried fix.

Holy good Lord, this is one of those places that when you are scrolling back over your Yelp reviews from a few years ago you will stop and linger and ask yourself, "Can I justify an entire vacation by a single lobster roll?" The answer is HELL YES. Everything we had at Dj's was great, including the service. It was fast, fresh, and effing AMAZING. Definitely made the list of top five sandwiches ever, and may have even swiped the #2 spot (Giordano's will always and forever have my heart...I think). If you're like us (a snotty tourist from an urban area with a plethora of awesome food joints) rest assured: Dj's will not fail you! Sidle up to the little counter and order yourself some of this Heaven. When you get back to the city, you can tell everyone how the best sandwiches are REALLY served in obscure locations nestled in the hearts of vacation communities.

Clam roll is good. Lobster roll looked better but pricey

  • Elizabeth D.

Two words: LOBSTER. ROLL. The kind of dish that makes you completely vulnerable and unaware of your surroundings as you take a serious mental trip while eating it. Holy. Order it with a side of sweet potato fries for extra goodness. Get it with the maple mayonnaise. Life complete. You don't need to know anything else about this place.

  • Evan S.

Came back to this place twice in four days. Sure they may give you more fries (when you really want more clams or fish), but your still get a generous portion of food for what you pay for. Key West isn't cheap, point blank. I paid $12 for clams and only $3.50 for a yuengling DRAFT! As cheap as you gonna get in key west. I iked the pack you got to sit our front and people watch or go to the patio behind the place. Very nice people working there as well. They always stay very busy and are honest about how long it will take to prepare the food. First time having fried clams...and I'd have them again anytime!

  • Drunken R.

Kick ass Crab cake sandwich! The lobster rolls were fresh and fantastic. Love the sauce for the crab cakes. We also had some steamed clams and they were juicy. Nice spot to eat and watch everyone walk by Duval street, and if you like cigars, just buy one next door and light it up after your meal. DJ's is a must in Key West for a bite! Going back tomorrow to try the conch fritters. Ok, tried the fritters, fried Clams and fried Shrimp and all were super tasty! DJ's is a must when you are on Duval Street.

Really great food. Lobster roll was the best I've ever had. Fried conch and shrimp were also pretty good. Good find.

excellent fish tacos. huge portion. great slaw and sauce... generous addition of jalepenos....perfectly cooked fish. if the tortilla had done the rest of it justice i would have given five stars...

    (4)
  • Gene S.

Excellent. You could easily pay much more for one of the fancy restaurants on Duval street, but i doubt it would be better. The Lobster roll was fantastic, the fish sandwich was perfect. Nothing is overdone - over seasoned etc, like some of the other places. This a no-nonsense - great food 'shack' a must hit in KW.

  • Carmen H.

After living in Rhode Island for a year, I got addicted to Lobster Rolls so whenever I have the opportunity to order one, I do. The lobster rolls at DJ's were great, you get huge chunks of mouthwatering lobster meat served on a buttery toasted bun with a side of cole slaw. I also liked the location, there's extra seating in the back. It was so laid back with the chickens walking around. LOL. Overall this is a great "shack", but it's still not the New England lobster roll that I was used to. So a strong 4 out of 5 stars!

    (4)
  • Ducky M.

Lobster Roll at DJ's was definitely on my list of "delicious food to consume in Key West" while I was on vacation. This rich & buttery chunk of heaven was all it was cracked up to be, It came highly recommended by locals and I didn't leave the place disappointed. For $13, I just don't think you can go wrong. The hunks of Maine Lobster are spilling out of this buttery hoagie roll and it'll definitely leave you longing for that flavor again the rest of your trip (and even when you get home!) I found that it was a perfect for two while you meander up and down Duval street during the day. It' a perfect late lunch or snack while you check out shops and people watch. Chatted briefly with the owner who was all smiles and certainly was humble and thankful that we actually sought him out for his Lobster Rolls! Wish I had more to report, but DJ's was only a brief stop for us, and strictly to try out this much-raved-about Lobster Roll.

  • Philip B.

Went here based on the good reviews from Yelp and since it wasn't too far from where we were staying. We ordered the Maine Lobster Roll and were absolutely blown away by it. I haven't had too many restaurants anywhere that are 5-star worthy, but this little hole in the wall place was amazing. I would have loved to order more but the heat and my appetite were not helping. The lobster rolls were piled high with tons of lobster claw meat which was perfectly sweet and the bread was grilled and butter and had a bit of sweetness to it as well. They also do delivery, so if you don't want to venture down to Duval Street, call them up and place your order. You will NOT be disappointed. One note: Don't go during high lunch rush hours as there are very few seats (6 in front and some more on the patio) so either get there early or late.

    (5)
  • Staci B.

You really don't need to look at the menu here, just order the lobster roll and sweet potato fries. The maple mayo tastes like french toast. The service is quick, there's a patio with a fan (for those extra hot Key West afternoons), they're open late, and the food is out of this world.

    (5)
  • Brian M.

Yes. Yes. Yes. The lobster rolls were fantastic!! Excellent claw meat served simply with a little salad accent. The grilled bread added a nice hint of buttery goodness. Accompanied by a single lemon wedge, I could eat this every single day. The fact that DJs delivers is also awesome. A must for anyone down on Duval Street.

  • Sue R.

LOVE the lobster roll! Just like eating one in Maine! Recommend a lobster roll and ice cold Landshark!

    (5)
  • Amy C.

If you are ever in Key West, you must stop by DJ's and have the clams...oh, and do yourself a favor by ordering the LARGE size, you won't regret it!

    (5)
  • Gabriel V.

We went here based on the reviews and it was AMAZING! The prices were relatively inexpensive and the taste of the food was superb. I recommend the crab cakes sandwich. Also, like somebody else mentioned, the sweet potato fries are to die for.

  • Young K.

What can I say, this place was great. The lobster roll is what you want to get there as recommended by everyone else. It's made with lobster claws, which are the more expensive parts. Don't expect a great place to eat in and/or expect a wide selection of food. This is mainly a food stand that serve some great food. The fried clams were some of the best I've had in addition to the lobster roll. We also ordered the conch fritters which were pretty average. Overall, their main food was a 5 and that's all that matters to me. As an aside - in regards to people complaining about parking.. it's Key West and on Duval St - you will have to pay like that. It's not the fault of the restaurants for the parking situation.

    (5)
  • Ann C.

I had the peel and eat shrimp, which was really like shrimp cocktail that you had to peel yourself. It was very unimpressive. It was cold and seemed like it was sitting around all day. (1-star) The DH, however, had the deep fried oyster roll with fries and it looked and tasted really good. (3-star) So, having tried these two dishes, we're looking at a two-star restaurant.

    (2)
  • Gary R.

Went here after reading the reviews. $20 for lobster roll and lemonade - worth every penny.

    (5)
  • Debra O.

Tried to order delivery but they never showed. They called an hour later and said they were too busy. Wouldn't make it for us to pick up either. Ended up getting take out here later in the week and t he lobster roll was out of this world. Guess they don't need good service.

    (3)
  • Tiffany I.

We stopped by here because of the reviews and it was 2 blocks from our hotel. We're convinced that the conch fritters would be great, bad choice! They were horrible, didn't have any conch, way to much breading. The fries on the other hand were delicious. They served the fritters n fries with key lime honey mustard which was really just honey mustard. Maybe next time we will attempt to try the lobster roll which has good reviews as well.

The wife and I decided to drive down to the keys from miami and we ended up discovering this place. We order the lobster roll and the conch fritters which were so good. The roll used was fresh and had a little tase to buttermilk. When in the area, please don't forget to try this place.

I came here 6 months ago from a local's recomendation. I visited again recently and wasn't disappointed. Prices were great, the food was prepared right on the spot- Everything was prepared beautfully. Recommendations: Fish and Chips, or the Lobster Roll. Sweet potato fries for sure.

  • Jason K.

Again directed here by 3 locals all salivating talking about this place we knew it was going to be good. We werent disappointed. We ordered the conch fritters and chicken tenders. Both came with awesome shoe string fries. What sold me overall was the cool little patio in the back that is off Duval. I looked up and noticed in the condiment rack was a bottle of Malt Vinegar. I knew i was in for a treat. Anyone who stocks the malt knows whats up. The conch fritters were huge and extremely tasty! If you are a fan definitely get them. They give you a good portion (i think they gave us about 6 or 7. The chicken tenders were crunchy and fresh. They spice the fries with what i think was a little old bay. The dishes run about 7 bucks

  • Margaret R.

We finally got to try some conch fritters! We gobbled it all up.

  • Veronica V.

This place is very small. The food is delicious. I had peel and eat shrimp. Yummy! The lobster roll was delicious. This had chunks of lobster. I didn't care too much for the bread. Too thick. I sat on the front patio. Great for people watching. You have all kinds of people passing by.

Loved our 2 meals here this weekend. Lobster roll and fish tacos were superb. Tried the fried conch and loved the seasonings used here. Great, inexpensive but flavorful meal right on Duval. Definitely grab a bit here.

Amazing food, the lobster roll was the best I ever had, the place is really small, nothing fancy but the food is really good and the portions not bad, the lobster roll have ALOT of fresh tasty lobster, highly recommend to anyone visiting key west

I am a clam lover. The fresh clams that wiggle when u squeeze the lime on them are for me a delicacy that I had only been able to enjoy in Baja Mexico. I was si impressed they had them here! Then everything else on the menu turned out to be equally unique, fresh and delicious.

  • Tammy P.

Don't be fooled by the simple stand because the lobster roll is to die for! I'm not much for bread but this bread is delish. It is buttery and nicely toasted to perfection. The lobster meat is tender and sweet. The standard roll has plenty of lobster meat, which is great. I don't care for the slaw that came with the roll because it's too sweet for my taste. I'm hankering for another as I'm writing this review.

  • Brian M.

Place was Awesome. Sick food. Shocked me really. Had to go up and tell him. Lobster roll is the best.

    (4)
  • Mary B.

Well, I have to jump on the bandwagon and rave about the lobster roll. It's a very unique treat for a girl who grew up on Florida seafood. But I also have to give 2 thumbs up for the fish tacos which were very large, spicy and juicy! Lots of rip off, touristy restaurants who will gladly charge you 3 times the price in Key West. You've got to stop here at least one time on your trip.

    (5)
  • Nathan B.

The lobster roll is quite nice, greatly helped by a toasted buttery roll. Conch fritters are also a treat. Seating is limited, but the service is very friendly.

  • Eric s.

Very good meal. We returned home after a long day and didn't feel much like going out so we called and asked to have our dinner delivered. It was only about 20 minutes and we had fish tacos, crab cake app, and coconut shrimp. All was very good especially considering it was delivered, I can only imagine it would be even better in person.

    (5)
  • Michelle W.

Huge, succulent pieces of lobster in the lobster roll. Amazing. Sangria is also delicious! A friend got the pork tacos and it was super delicious (kitchen suggested it over the chicken tacos), but I would go with the lobster roll every time.

    (5)
  • Elissa M.

This place has good food and if I was starving and right by it I would stop again otherwise it doesn't really stand out too much. We also had to wait a long time for our food. Longer than I thought since there didn't seem to be too many people there. I had the fish tacos which came with 2 tacos that were a pretty large size. They were spicy and satisfying but weren't as delicate and homemade tasting as I would like. My son and boyfriend were both happy with their fries and whatever fried seafood they chose (I can't remember).

    (3)
  • J W.

Oversized lobster roll was worth the $25. Delicious, not overly covered in mayo. Conch fritters were over fried-- very chewy. Not worth it at $11. Nice place to stop by for a quick bite.

    (4)
  • Allan Jay G.

What can I say but Wowsers!!! No wonder this place popular. The Lobster Roll we ordered is da best in the world. It's so meaty and tasty it's amazeballz!!

    (5)
  • April K.

Simply put, DJ's delivers. Great central location on Duval, it looks tiny from the front but don't be fooled. They have a back patio. Cashier was very cool and honored our yelp check in, no questions asked, which saved us 10% on our entire bill! Fish tacos are more akin to fish burritos, as they are MASSIVE. New England clam chowder was delicious and the lobster roll sandwich was off the charts. If you're looking for an authentic hole in the wall that's all about quality inexpensive food, DJ's is a must.

    (5)
  • Jeff L.

Oh dear GOD IN HEAVEN!!!!! I could eat the lobster roll from DJ's every day. (I may die an early death from caloric over-load ---- but it will be worth it). Don't let the "basic" appearance sway you. The food is what matters and this will NOT dissappoint.

  • Jes S.

This was on my list of places to visit while vacationing in Key West from NYC. While I enjoyed their famous lobster roll, I regret trying it on a full stomach. I definitely should have saved my appetite for this one, because there was plenty of delicious lobster meat stuffed into a buttery roll. My only recommendation- add a bit more butter to that delicious bread. The servers were really friendly, and seating is no-frills. Definitely check this place out if you find yourself on Duval Street.

    (4)
  • D T.

My kinda place. Dont miss this. No pretence, just good food. Was so good we ate here twice on 4 day trip. With all the mediocre fare in KW this is a standout. Basic walk-up counter with a few streetside stools. Had oysters, conch fritters, steamed clams and fried shrimp. Everything was spot on and fresh. Conch fritters standout with chunks of meat and light batter that was consistent and well cooked to the core. Seasoned and accompanied with fries in a convenient cone (with holder for sauce) that you can easily stroll with. Very cool!

    (4)
  • Danielle P.

Saw this on DDD. Had to check it out when I was in town. Lobster roll rocks! I'm definitely making this a stop every time I'm in Key West.

Awesome.... fresh seafood... real whole fried clams here, no clam strips... great lobster roll n fries... fast polite service... No bargains... 13 dollar sandwiches, but no complaints.

  • Christopher G.

A gem on dual. Now as a gem goes, its expensive. . . maybe a bit of tourist trap. ON first look, it looks like just a counter, and a couple bar seats. Yet there is a back patio . . with a few tables and a rest room. The food is excellent. .. we got fish sticks, fries, and clams. . .and it was ALL really good. My kids loved it as well, The patio is cute. It sits right behind the counter and is small and quaint and cute. A full SQC! When your on Duval you expect to get ripped off. Here . .its not cheap. .but it is good. . .and it has something you really want on the keys - decent seafood. i say go for it

  • Chris A.

If you are on Duval Street, this place is a must. The Lobster Roll was one of the best things I ate all week in Key West. Shrimp and Conch Fritters were also good. We sat in the front of DJ's on Duval Street. Great for eating and people watching. The times we went we had very prompt service.

    (5)
  • Jessica P.

Awesome find on yelp! I would have totally passed this place up! On crowded Duval street, it is easy to walk past this walk up restaurant but trust me you don't want to! My mom and I both got the lobster roll. For $15, it was delicious! It could be worth more. Tons and tons of lobster meat (no filler, just lots of lobster) on a toasted yummy roll with a side of coleslaw. Best meal in key west! Wish I has found it before our last day or I would've had it again!

    (5)
  • Paul M.

I was in Key West over the summer. I found this place on Yelp and saw that it had great reviews so we decided to try it. I'm so glad I did!! The lobster rolls here are the best I've ever had!! The conch fritters were phenomenal too!!

    (5)
  • Brian R.

The best true belly Clams I have ever eaten!! This place is not to be missed. Better than any seafood shack you will fin in the northeast. Blows Maine away. Better than any sit down seafood restaurant in key west.

    (5)
  • Mercie C.

Wow amazing Lobster Roll!!! Friendly service.

    (5)
  • Arcadian B.

Thank you yelp for directing and recommending this place....a small little seafood shack that delivers excellent seafood, the only thing that bothered me was seating outdoor in 90F sweating all day in the Florida humidity We got the fried clams which tasted sooooooooooo fresh omg I have nvr had such fresh tasting clams b4, crab cakes which tasted a little bit spicy but good, lobster roll which was average and the fries conch which probably was the highlight of the dinner...prices are reasonable but not cheap or expensive, we got 10% off our entire check just checking in on yelp so utilize that Don't expect this place to be fancy but just expect great tasting seafood from this local key west joint I'll be back for more

    (5)
  • Cheryl W.

Terrible Cold food. Took 1/2 hour for our food. Go to the conch shack. Been to a lot of places. The worse.

    (1)
  • Virgi L.

Went there with a couple for dinner after starving ourselves the entire day to eat here. I was disappointed with the quality of the food and the service. The menu looks delicious but when the food arrives it is nothing like what is pictured or explained by the waiter. I would not recommend this to someone visiting Key West

    (2)
  • Ginny C.

OMG I just had a food orgasm! I used to live in Key West and come back here 4 times a year and I never tried this place until You Yelpsters hooked me up.. YUM! Just had the Maine lobster roll. Amazing. Can't wait to come back for the fried clams. I'm originally from Maine so am def a lobster snob. A new fav place to eat in Key West!

    (5)
  • Hunter S.

The renowned Lobster Roll was meh... The bread was great but the Lobster (Maine lobster... Not local Key West lobster) did not have much flavor to it. My mom and girlfriend split the Fish sandwich, and it had lots of flavor. Quality food for decent pricing. However, there is not too much room for seating. We were lucky to get seats facing Duval street, which provided for some good people watching while eating. Overall, good food... I'll just be sure to get the fish sandwich next time.

    (4)
  • Garen M.

Saw this place on Triple D. I looked them up to try the lobster roll. It was pretty good but could use a little more flavor. The service and eating area were a little sub-par. Not bad, but my expectations were higher.

  • Cee B.

Must have the lobster roll. Exactly like all other helpers said.

    (3)
  • Phillip N.

the guys are locals and a little weird but the food was fantastic. I had the conch fritters which I loved with their dipping sauce and the wife had the peel and eat shrimp and both were fantastic. for good food reasonably priced, this is a great location to hit up. only draw back is the atmosphere because it's just a joint to eat good food

    (4)
  • Niran A.

It was mind blowing how much bad seafood options there are in Key West - DJ's Clam Shack thank fully is not one of them. This place is a no frills shack with a very limited but perfect menu. You order at the front window, which also exposes the tiny kitchen. Once you get your food you can try and find a place to eat in the back patio which is hidden by flowers and plants from the Key West sun. The main draw at DJ's is the lobster rolls, which is generous portion of fresh lobster with minimal mayo and other seasoning served in a buttery hot dog roll. Savor each bite, this lobster rolls rivals just about any I had in Boston. I didn't try the clams in wine sauce, but they also looked very delectable and good for sharing. The menu also had fish tacos, but most people opted for either the lobster or clams. Go here and get the lobster roll, you won't regret it.

    (4)
  • Meredith R.

Went by everyone reviews and was very happy. Got of course the lobster rolls, conch fritters & sweet potato fries for $23.00. It was big chunks of Main lobster claws. Just like up in New England. Its a hole in the wall but that adds to it.

I'm From Boston & This Was Hands Down The Best Clam Chowder & Lobstah Roll I Ever Had!!!! Seriously Insane! Every Bite I Said Wow..... Fresh Fresh Fresh!!!!!!

On a quick day trip down to Key West, I found DJ's Clam Shack from a Yelp review. We arrived there and saw that it was a very small shack type of store front with a few bench seats and more seating in the back available. We ordered the New England Clam Chowder, Mahi Mahi Tacos, and Conch Fritters. We got the chowder first and was pretty good, good amount of clam and potato in the chowder (came with oyster crackers). The fish tacos were surprisingly large sized, it came with 2 mahi mahi tacos wrapped in burrito sized tortillas. The fish (2 pieces in each taco) was lightly fried with a mildly spicy chipotle mayo sauce and cole slaw. The order of tacos also came on a bed of french fries. The conch fritters are by far the best ones I had before. The filling had a fairly even amount of breading and conch meats, the conch fritters came in a cone tower with fries under. They have their own homemade honey mustard which is thick that brings sweetness, tastes pretty good with the conch fritters to me. My meal for 2 came out to be around 40$ which isn't too bad for all the food we had. All in all I thought it was a good choice for me to come here and I would definitely come back to try their other things they have. I would recommend for anyone who wants seafood in the Key West area to come by and try DJ's Clam Shack.

Great lobster roll. Almost got the super sized but the normal was plenty. Conch fritters are good but nothing special. Cracked conch are great. Crab cakes are really good. Nice and spicy. All that goes good with a nice cold corona!

Avoid the fried stuff and stick with the lobstahhh rolls! Lots of lobster on yummy grilled bread and a fun Duval-front sidewalk bar to people watch from while you eat.

This place is a hole in the wall shack. I was almost a little weary of even placing an order. But after being very disappointed from our restaurant selection so far my friend nudged me along. And Omg The lobster Roll was just delish. The roll itself was lightly buttered and grilled, the real lobster meat in the roll was warm and chunky. Clams were good too. Don't waste your time going to the fancy over priced restaurants looking for a good bite to eat. This was by far the islands best.

This place was absolutely fantastic! We both had the lobster roll with the sweet potato fries. The lobster melted in our mouths. The bread - to die for. The dip for the sweet potatoes - unfreakingreal! Verrry tasty! The service was great too. Hoping to go back the next time we're in Key West.

The best darn lobster roll (special bread) anywhere! They use all claw meat, the regular size is BIG and it's an excellent price. A great value :-)

Excellent, we stumbled upon DJ's, and found the Guy Fieri did a segment for Triple D! It's a tiny stand, but big on flavors. We had the lobster roll, conch fritters, fish fingers, and clam chowder. All nicely flavored and I liked the clam chowder and conch fritters the best. Lobster roll was pretty good though!! Took lot's of photos, and the owner was very nice. As the evening grew, and we passed by, more people were enjoying the fabulous food!

Wow, what a find! We were debating where to eat, and are so glad we chose this. The maine lobster roll & conch fritters were wonderful! If we lived here, we would eat here frequently.

Lobster rolls! They are totally killer. Eat here you won't regret it! The food is truly awesome and the people watching isn't bad either!

Lobster roll, lobster roll, lobster roll. By the way, it's New England lobster. Highly recommend for lunch. Sit and the counter and people watch!

If you liked fried food this is your place. I wasnt that impressed but my fiancé liked the lobster roll. There is limited seating as well.

  • Christiana S.

Grabbed everything to go and it was ready in no time. The lobster roll is what to get here. Exceedingly fresh and lightly dressed to ensure you really taste the flavor of the meat. I wasn't crazy about the french fries, but who cares? Seafood this good doesn't need fries! The conch fritters weren't my favorite, either, but I can't blame them. Theirs were the only ones I had ever eaten, so I may have just not liked the dish in general. It is very different - and worth trying even if you never have before. CLAM STRIPS! I am in love with clam strips, and theirs are the best I've ever had!

  • Lily L.

Conch fritters were the best so far from all the places on Key West. The lobster roll was just okay. The food is all more or less fried and on the heavy side. The have a back patio where you can eat but it's still pretty humid and hot. Eating such heavy, fried foods in the heat ruins the experience-- it's prob best to hit this place when it's not August and disgusting hot and humid.

  • ElizaRose A.

The lobster roll was packed with meat...nice. except that I ordered it to go...by the time I ate it...15 hot minutes later it was very cold. Not warm. Cold. Is that how it's supposed to be? Im confused. I wanna give it another try tomorrow. Hmmm....

Not that good. Went with bf and BFF who said the same thing. Cashier/order taker not that friendly and after waiting in line food was mediocre. Nothing about clams was spectacular. Lobster roll was okay. Despite what Guy says, SKIP IT.

  • Kiz L.

The lobster roll is ridiculously fresh and the service is pleasant. Could offer a few more sides and ampe up the rest of the menu rather than specializing in so few entree's. However, I would definitely return because what's good is great

The clams are great and fresh. Lobster roll is as good as it was described. Pricey but good. It worth the dough. $16 for a lobster roll.

I don't even remember exactly how I wound up here. I think I was asking questions about conch fritters (seeing as Key West is the Conch Republic), which they have, and then my friend mentioned that DJ's has *THE BEST* lobster roll. I'm down. "Shack" should have tipped me off, but I was somehow expecting a larger restaurant. The front is a hut and the back patio isn't much larger. But what they lack in space they make up for in their meal portions. I stepped up to the counter and checked out the menu. I wish my initial reaction could have been caught on camera, because I'm sure my jaw dropped when I saw it was $15 for a Lobster Roll (Is that even a big deal? I have no reference. I don't go about town ordering lobster all day.), and it quite possibly unhinged and hit the floor at the sight of the $25 price tag for the Overstuffed Lobster Roll. But I had come there for a roll and I was on vacation. So, you know what? Supersize me! YOLO, muthafukah! (Would that be a YOLO? I don't know how these things work either.). You might wish your jaw can actually detach from your face if you order this. It's a mammoth meal that you'll need a plan of attack for. It's delicious to boot! They truly overstuff it with large crunks of lobster tail and claws. Their dressing isn't too heavy and I liked the crunch the celery added. But don't let that fool you into believing it's health food or something. The Texas toast is as big as the state it's named after and golden yellow from the stick of butter that's probably coating it. Don't care. I'd do it all over again.

5 stars for the best lobster roll I've ever eaten - and I've had them in New England. The lobster was in huge pieces (seriously, check out my pic), was cooked perfectly, had great flavor, and the roll itself was well made and nicely toasted. You must try it. I got onion rings which were large and standard - made ever more lovely with lots of ketchup. We also tried the conch fritters which were not my thing just because I expected something totally different - so I won't ding them on that. The accompanying sauce was good and, well, it was nicely fried and the filling was cooked well. ***Also, check in before you order, for the 10% off. I didn't check in til after I ordered. Grr

Most definitely a Shack. We sat outside because there was no inside. I had heard the conch fritters were amazing-my husband loved them-for me they were ok. The shrimp & fish were hot & fresh. Would definitely go again..

  • Mollie H.

The BEST lobster rolls ever. Can't miss out on this place! It's really small, so keep your eyes peeled for it, because it's amazing. If you like sweet things, try the sweet potato fries with the maple sauce. Yum!

  • Mike E.

Went here based on all the reviews. The food was great and a wonderful experience for friends' first visit to the States from France. Seating is limited with a "no frills" environment. Not the place to go if your looking for a relaxed atmosphere. However, the seafood is great. Got the overstuffed lobster roll, clam basket, conch fritters and oysters on the half shell. All very delicious and fresh! It was a bit overpriced given the atmosphere, no real table service and limited seating. 100 bucks for four people. That includes two beers. Had a great time though. I do recommend it for the fresh seafood.

  • Justin T.

Lobster rolls were pretty good. The biggest downside is the eating area, we went there for dinner and ate out back in the dark. Probably a better place to eat lunch.

Awesome, awesome. What else can I say? Ok, the lobster roll is fantastic...stuffed to the gills with fresh sweet lobster with a clean, savory mayo spread..Yummiest! The clam chowder rocks, rocks, and rocks! Very friendly staff and the locals hang there. Do yourself a favor and hit this place. Perfectly located on Duval St. Enjoy, because I sure did. Excellent!!

This is a cute place to just stop by for something quick. You can sit outside and just people watch while you eat. I had the coconut shrimp which were really good. Most people I spoke with recommended this place for a quick bite and I'm not mad at them.

  • Eliza M.

Positives: Great prices and location - loved the seating at barrels behind the shack. There is also very limited seating on the front porch with great people watching. Also great service. Negatives: This is not really a negative, because the food was very good, but I think food at clam shacks on the new england coast beat it. Keep in mind this is a walk up window with limited seating - don't count on sitting down for a meal.

This is the first place I ate upon arriving in Key West & it did not disappoint. A little pricey, but what isn't here? The freshest clam strips I've ever eaten in my life. My father had the fish tacos which were delightful as well. Highly recommend stopping by when in town.

Read the other reviews and decided to go. The food was very good and we sat at the big table in the back. You won't be disappointed, the food and service was very good. Dont be fooled by the appearance as it looks like a hole in the wall

Went here for our first night in Key West and had the lobster roll and sweet potato fries. Sat out front people watching. The food was very good and satisfying. Great first impression of Key West. After I told them that we had chosen them due yo the Yelp reviews, we were given free drinks card for our next visit;if had said it when ordering would have got10o/o off

Definitely the lobster roll is the way to go... It also has a nice back patio. We'll eat there again if we come back to Key West

om nom nom. exactly what we were looking for after we landed in key west. quick and on the cheaper side. dj's has ipswich clams/oysters and maine lobster flown in, but since we're from new england we passed on those items and opted to try the local fish instead. we ended up splitting these delicious white fish tacos with spicy sauce, and fried conch fritters. everything tasted great and we had a few ice cold beers and a fresh squeezed lemonade to wash it down with. the owner was a friendly guy from new england and fun to chat with. i enjoyed sitting at the lunch counter so i could watch folks walk by on duval street. overall, cute place with quick and tasty food.

  • Tim S.

Ok... certainly not great. fish was overcooked and dry. pretty standard fried food otherwise.

    (3)
  • Alice S.

i loved the lobster roll. for $13 you got a generous portion of maine lobster on a nice and toasted roll. it was delicious. we also ordered conch fritters, which were really good. the fritters came with a side of fries, so don't order another one like we did. really good place to stop for lunch while you're walking around.

    (5)
  • Lois A.

Like a lot of people have said, the lobster roll is awesome. So is sitting down when it is so hot you feel like you will die and drinking an ice cold beer. Great people watching here.

  • Connie G.

Good food at reasonable prices, in casual Key West style. Enjoyed the conch fritters. Fried clams were good, but have a more "fishy" flavor and texture than the average fried clams you get elsewhere. Delicious sweet potato fries.

2nd time at DJs and as unimpressed as I was the first time. Fairly expensive for what you get (unless you like PILEs and PILEs of french fries). Shrimp was just ok but certainly not the best in KW. Forgo a trip to DJs Clam Shack and head to B.O.s fish wagon off Caroline if you're hankerin' for fresh seafood. I won't go there again!

Get the fish tacos they are great. We had the lobster sandwich as well and were not impressed. Definitely frozen lobster with no taste.

  • Jody D.

This place looks like a total dive, but has really good food. My husband and I shared a bowl of clam chowder and a plate of fish tacos. The food was fresh and good and there was plenty for the two of us. They did put a hot type of sauce on the fish tacos so if you don't like hot stuff, order it without.

The clams were good but... again loads of fries and not enough clams. I liked the location of the shack. We grabbed two bar stools on the front and people watched. Hubby had the fried grouper it was also tasty. My only complaint is that I left hungry.

This place was awesome all the way around. We ate there two nights, and everything we ordered was great. Seriously. That was the best lobster roll I've ever come across. Wow.

  • Don D.

When a restaurant gets reviews from 1 - 5 you know some hit it right and some don't. We did not. The "Ipswich" clams are an insult to any fried clam places in Ipswich. Think Clam Box. I had 2 pieces of the clams and there were soggy and old or worse. I would not let my wife even try them, so if I got sick we could narrow it down to the clams. She had the shrimp and they were just ok.

conch done right. this place doesn't look like much from the front, but the food is great. no bathroom, no indoor seating, but that didn't bother me. the seasoning in their conch fritters was interesting and the plain fried conch was delicious. it's hard to find just fried conch--everyone wants to screw around with it and add fillers. this was a good change. great prices. the perfect no-fuss lunch.

Read great things about this place, but went there today during bike week with thousands of people with pockets full of cash and they have a sign in front closed till Oct. 6th. Guess they don't like bikers! Screw them!

WOW!!!! five stars for DJ. i must admit I was a tad weary at first when approaching this little bitty shack in the middle of busy, busy Duval street. Everything on the menu screams heart attack: fried clams, fried shrimp, fried oysters etc etc (they do offer a mixed green salad for the health conscious though). when I expressed to the cook that I would love a fried fish sandwich but was feeling iffy about it being fried he suggested blackend fish sandwich as an alternative. I readily agreed and hot damn! it was SO DELICIOUS. fresh (litterally, i have not tasted fish fresher than this) grouper with spices grilled and blackened, lettuce and tomatoes hugged by bread...it brought me to heaven and back. PLUS- it came with perfect fries, thin and crispy with just the right amount of salt. 10 thumbs up for DJs, I wouldnt change a thing.

ORDER. THE. LOBSTER. ROLL. I've been dreaming of that Lobster Roll since I left Key West. I like this place. This hole in the wall is great for people watching too if a couple of the 6 seats out front are available. Skip the the raw oysters here - they're iffy. The beer is cold and food is hot and the prices are cheap. Provecha.

    (4)
  • Tina K.

I drove all the way down to Key West from Miami just to eat their raw oysters and raw clams - enough said. I had some of the best raw oysters I have ever tasted here - sweet, clean, fresh, succulent oysters! Now if I could only find a place in Miami that can measure up...

  • Steve F.

It pains me to write this because earlier this week we had the wonderful 5 -star lobster roll and fried clams and both were spectacular (and we're from New England so we know lobster and clams). So for a change-up we ordered the chicken fingers and fish fingers (along with another lobster roll) last night and while the lobster roll was great as usual, both the fish and chicken fingers were inedible: dry, overcooked, tasteless, truly horrible. And the pieces were either too thin for frying or too tiny: the effect was to produce pieces of hard batter with something un-identifiably dry in the middle--honestly we could barely tell what was chicken or what was fish. I seriously wondered if they had double fried these orders after someone failed to show up to pick up an order. I called to complain and to their credit they were very apologetic and offered to make it up to me in the future which is great (alas, we're leaving in a day), but future patrons should be fore-warned. What totally confounds me is how they could produce spectacular fried clams--delicate, done just right, just like I get in Ipswich or the coast of Maine, and yet manage to screw up fish and chicken fingers. So my advice is to check out DJs --but only for the lobster roll and clams. I hope they will bring other menu options up to the quality of the rolls and clams. Oh, and if you call ahead and want to pick up, they wait to cook your order until you arrive because they have apparently been dinged by rude folks that don't show up. If they're not busy, no problem, but if they are, there could be a wait.

You have to stop here while in Key West. Seriously, you won't be disappointed. This is great seafood and it's fried to perfection. The portions were bigger than I thought. I actually couldn't finish my lunch. This is a great place to grab a quick lunch and it's so affordable up against these other restaurants who charge $15 for the same meal!

We went to this place based on the reviews, while on vacation. I guess I don't understand how anyone can give this 5 stars. It is pretty much New England style seafood, that has been transplanted to the Keys. The lobster roll is OK, but certainly not great. The fried seafood was over cooked and tough. You do get a pile of fries. I guess they think this makes it look like you are getting a lot of seafood. What you get is 5 shrimp and a pound of french fries. It is OK for a quick lunch or snack, but that is about the end of it. There are tables in the back, if the stools in front are full.

  • Rico R.

It was alright, I had a Lobster roll, wasn't what I expected but it was good. Price was not that cheap, thirteen dolla for the lobster roll, It was pretty packed with lobster meat though.

  • IK I.

While in key west I headed off to DJs for the highly touted lobster roll sandwich. Just as advertised here on yelp we were not at all disappointed. The lobster roll was moist and full of lobster meat and the best part was it wasn't swimming in mayo like some so called lobster rolls seem to be. Not skimpy at all. The bread was really tasty, nicely toasted and buttered lightly and somewhat sweet. My girls had a couple of salads with grilled chicken. That they seemed to enjoy. in the back of the restaurant there is a small funky eating area, very key west style. If your in the mood for a lobster roll while in key west, you now know where to go.

    (5)
  • Liza G.

The Lobster Roll from this place is amazing! They serve it in their own buttery delicious bread, with a good amount of lobster, with a side of sweet potato fries. yummy! The only downfall is that it lacks space to eat, but it's the Keys, ya need to roll with the punches.

    (4)
  • Jill P.

Best conch fritters I've ever tasted! The lobster roll was fantastic too; full of huge chunks of tender lobster. The bread was extremely good. We ordered the fries to split, and they were fresh and hot and crispy! We also tried the peel and eat shrimp, which were the best on the island. We ended up eating at DJ's two times during our 3 night stay. Please go there. You will be glad you did!

Great spot for some fried seafood. An unassuming front counter, and a nice back porch. I have tried the cracked conch, fried grouper, and fried shrimp; all have been fantastic and fresh. You are served in a paper cone with some really good french fries under your main item. I highly recommend. Better beer selection would have made it really top notch.

Found this place and got 10 percent of by checking in. Regular lobster roll was decent, lobster tasted fresh. It was good enough, only complaint was that the lobster was in chunks instead of ground up. My personal preference, not really a flaw. Got chicken fingers with fries as well. Mainly fries. Was alright, overpriced. Paid 22 and change for 2.

Been going to Key West every year for many years in May. Always check out the highest rated restaurants there and make sure we try a meal from each one. This place had the most most memorable, incrediblely delicious bite of food I've ever had there. A northeastern coast native. Grew up eating lots of lobster and lobster roll sandwiches on the Jersey Shore and Cape Cod. This shabby looking shack kicked butt. Solid buttered bun, huge thick slabs of way overstuffed northern lobster with a just barely there glaze of mayo. Fantastic! Clams were sooo... damn good too. Great presentation in a cone on top of the fries. Really enjoyed the best restaurants in Key West. Will never forget how good DJ's lobster roll was.

Great Little Shack that has really good fried claims. I had the fried claim sandwich. It was served on a lobster roll, buttered and grilled. Would definitively repeat. and if you like fries you will be happy. they give you a mountain with every order.

the place is in between two stores so it's very tight and there is hardly any sitting. i have tried several things from this place. lobster roll---very good...wish there was more lobster in it but it's good fried shrimp---good but nothing to write home about....they only give you like 5 shrimp. fried bellied clams-- never had bellied clams (not sure spelling is right) before but i thought it was very good. wish portions are bigger. they do pile on the fries and they are good. overall, the price is reasonable and food is good but portion wise is small except the fries.

    (4)
  • Dave J.

now this is a small place right on duval with limited seating, and they serve outstanding fried seafood like fish and chips and fried clams and also some fresh stuff on the half shell, a lobster roll and various other sandwiches. really good fried seafood, and they manage to sneak in a little chicken too. good chow, cold beer (and yea, that' sort of a given on duval, but it goes so good with the food that i need to mention it), and the price is right. there's some seating right out in front where you can watch the circus passing by or sit in back where there's a bit more shade. they've got a special seasoning on the fries that really does it right. they aim to please!

There is nothing more to say than this: The Lobster Roll is amazing and if you love lobster, you must order this and eat it. Generous chunks and not full of mayo, this is definitely worth the price. If you are reading reviews on Yelp! to convince you if its worth it, consider yourself convinced.

We came simply for a snack and what better snack to share than a LOBSTER ROLL! This one was ON POINT! It was fresh and the lobster was sweet and plentiful. I'm talking large chunks of meat. The bread was buttery and toasty and was just perfect! And with each bite some fell out which was a great bonus to eat after you've inhaled this yummy goodness like Kirby. It came with cole slaw (very tasty) and a lemon wedge and was enjoyed sitting facing duval street so we could watch people walk by being envious of our treat! Added bonus of my last trip. I "checked in" through yelp and got 10% off! Can't beat that!

Was in Key West for 5 days and stopped at DJ's every one of them for snack or meal. The Lobster rolls are as good as you will find, all claw meat shipped weekly from Maine. Worth every penny. The Clam Chowder was also creamy and fresh. Wish I could comment on more of the menu but I pretty much stuck to the lobster roll, sooooo good.

  • Lance W.

LOVED this place!!! As others have mentioned, don't bother with the menu. Get the lobster roll and the sweet potato fries. They are unreal. Large chunks of lobsters, whole claws and all, in a light cool dressing and placed between a grilled bun. The sweet potato fries are crispy sweet and served with a maple-mayo that was a very nice twist on just the usual sweet potato fries (although there's still some malt vinegar at the tables...ya know, just in case). That's it. go here. eat lobsters.

  • Damon T.

If you hit this place up make sure to grab a beer and head to the back. The small, open air seating area is a great place to get off the street and chill out while you eat delicious food. Both the lobster roll and the Cracked Conch were out of this world.

This was our first time in Key West and we relied on reviews to select a tasty, regional-best, casual eatery. After six days in Miami, our five-person group was searching for something other than Cuban, Mexican, fried shrimp or salads, which we enjoyed. Agreed, the lobster roll was the best ever....we got lobster...thick,tender, juicy and delicious. Nothing like that could be found during our food quest in Miami. The fish tacos and conch were also very good. This food made our day. We also had a huge salad with leafy greens and great sweet potato fries. Nice job, nice price.

I tried the lobster roll. I think it was $15.. if you want it "overstuffed" it will cost you $25. I thought it was OK. Nothing too spectacular. Their lobster mixture had bits of celery.. That was new to me. For the high rating on Yelp I expected to be blown away but I was not. Not sure if I'll come back. There's too many other restaurants to try.

Absolutely amazing. Lobster roll was off the chain. Have to get the conch fritters too. Sooo delicious

The lobster roll was so full of lobster meat! I was so yummy. We also had the clam platter, the clams were tender juicy and a wonderful crunchy batter. I was sorry we were not there long enough to go again. The little patio in the back was a perfect spot to enjoy our lunch.

Omg. This spot is definitely one of the best seafood place in North America! We had 2 orders of garlic neck clams and we are going back there again. Lobster rolls are amazing and I personally don't even eat rolls. Fish tacos, conch tacos, cold slaw are so delicious to just snack on. I wish they had oysters last night, that would have completed my day.

Not Authentic seafood. French fries were Mcadonalds quality, Conch was tasteless and appeared to resemble a frozen dim sum - fried. Lobster roll was more bread than filling, not flavourful, I'd rather have less bread with the same filling portion. Atmosphere was extremely tourist based.

THE LOBSTER ROLL IS EVERYTHING. Absolutely delicious. Boyfriend got the chicken tacos and they were awesome! 2 big tacos filled my guy right up! We visited here 3-4 times during our stay because the prices were so good and the food was delicious! Use the yelp code and get 10% off your order!

I had the overstuffed lobster roll, conch fritters and fries. O.M.G. The lobster roll had very little mayo. Perfect. The bun was perfect. The conch fritters were amazing, and served steaming hot. There was malt vinegar for the fries on the tables on the patio which was a really nice touch. Don't let the prices here scare you away the clam shack is worth every penny.

  • Angela R.

We had the crab cakes, the Mahi Mahi tacos, fried conch, and the hot dog. The crab cakes were mostly breading with only a little bit of crab, which was disappointing. The conch was a little tough, and the sweet and sour sauce that came with it was pretty gross. The tacos and hot dog were equally unremarkable. The service was good.

  • Scott S.

Steamed clams were amazing. White wine butter lemon sauce with herbs. We were practically drinking the broth. Conch fritters were the most flavorful we had in key west. Staff was very friendly. Little place with a few tables on the back patio.

Lobster roll at $14 (or $15)? It was a hit! Although it is not a fancy restaurant, you still get chunk of lobster meat on your sandwich.

  • Lestat V.

WOW! That's all I want to say, WOW! The best lobster roll I've ever had! I had the overstuffed lobster roll which has slightly more than double the amount of the regular lobster roll. We're not talking little pieces of lobster, we are talking about huge pieces of lobster along with giant pieces of lobster claw. Took it down like a champ. If you're in Key West and like lobster rolls you MUST come by. The service was warm and friendly. The decor is very local and quaint. There is not a lot of seating in the front. There's only a couple of counters with about 3 to 4 stools each. I prefer eating in the front so I can people watch off of Duval Street. There is plenty of space in the back but it's not very nice looking. Since I am not a fan of the five star rating system, I give DJs clam shack 8 lobster claws out of 10.

  • Yiqing C.

$15 for regular lobster roll and $25 for overstuffed. Sound a bit pricy but definitely worth the money. Super fresh lobster. The coleslaw side is a little too sour. There is always a line so you may have to wait 10-20 min before u can get ur food. They have a few bar chairs up front and more sitting in the back. Don't be surprise if flower petals fall into ur dish when u sit in the back. :)

Strolling on Duval, trying to find a place to eat that wasn't either packed or specializing in hamburgers. Decided to Yelp and this was the closest place. Walk up window to order but quick service. Ordered the Maine lobster roll and the Mahi Mahi tacos. Lobster roll came with coleslaw (apple cider based) and the tacos a choice: coleslaw or shoe string fries. Lobster roll and coleslaw were good and the tacos were great. Long strips of Mahi Mahi coated in a light crisp batter with cabbage, purple onions, jalapeños and a mayo sauce. Two cold Coronas with limes completed the meal. Sat at the bar in front overlooking Duval to people watch and enjoy the night but there's a patio in back if the front is too crowded.

A little taste of New England in the heart of old town Key West. Lobster roll is stuffed with fresh lobster you can also have it "overstuffed". The whole belly clam roll is amazing.

  • Katie P.

Went here because I saw it on an episode of Triple D, and it looked amazing! The lobster rolls were absolutely wonderful, the conch fritters were bomb, and the fried clam strips were the best I've had! I also had some of their lemonade, and it was delicious. I definitely recommend it! Will be back next time I'm in the keys!

This place was ok, lobster roll was good, the conch fritters, shrimp and fried clams we also ordered were just ok. I will probably not be back.

My tour of Key West was very short so I had to make sure I checked this place out before leaving. I've heard about DJ's as one of Guy Fieri's stops on Diners, Drive-in's, and Dive's and the main attraction was his lobster rolls. From what I saw, DJ's is more a stand and not a restaurant, with a few stools sitting along the front. I had to get back to the ship so we just walk on up to the order window ordering the Maine lobster roll to go. You can order the regular Maine lobster roll for $15 or the overstuffed lobster roll for $25, both comes with an order of slaw. The Maine lobster roll was enough for me. Their lobster rolls are one of the best along side the lobster rolls from Bocado. The rolls was chucked full of lobster meat, well seasoned, and was with just enough Mayo to bind. The bread was soft and buttery, I topped with a squeeze of lemon and I was in heaven. The fried conch is another popular item I'll have to try another time. Service was great, greeted with a hello and a smile.

We've been coming to KW for years, how we missed stopping here remains a mystery. The conch fritters were the best we've ever had and the fish taco (magi, mahi) was out of this world! We'll be back !

The lobster roll is the best ever! We will be going here every day that we are in key west. Awesome.

Ok I totally forgot to give this place a review when we were vacationing but OMG such a great lobster roll! We are there at least 3 times. The staff was very friendly. I just loved it

  • Matt M.

The lobster roll is amazing, with a very generous portion of meat and minimal filler. Must visit DJ's when on key west!

    (5)
  • Nicole L.

Loved it! Had the overstuffed lobster roll and it was amazing! The conch fritters are also yummy. There is seating in the back off the street.

    (5)
  • David H.

I had the overstuffed lobster roll and it was quite mammoth. As in I needed a fork to finish everything that fell out of the hot dog bun. Lots & lots of lobster! Porch or patio seating is available. Sitting on the porch you can people watch all of the interesting tourists, locals and cruise patrons walking by. The overstuffed is probably too much for most people, including me. Great place to stop for a quick bite to eat. They do serve a handful of beers which you can enjoy people watching or eating your meal!

Great lobster roll, mayo base with a sweet grilled bun. Enough to share. Friendly service, great lobster- we would definitely return.

Horrible prebreaded frozen clams. Live chickens walking through the dining area and pooping on the floor. This place was a total disappointment. I have no idea how they maintain such a high yelp score.

Take my advice...the overstuffed lobster roll with a couple of Coronas shared with your significant other while people watching on Duval street...terrific!

Only place in Key West we visited twice. Had the steamed clams one day and lobster roll the next. Also sampled the conch fritters and fish tacos. Everything is excellent. Seating in the back for about 12 people. Most just get it to go.

  • Jackelyn P.

The BEST lobster roll in the universe. I live in Miami and have driven down to Key West specifically to have this delicacy. The prices are not bad considering that they are giving you a ton of lobster and the service is friendly. They also offer clam strips, french fries, which are all okay and pretty much standard. But the thing to have here is the lobster roll. you will not be sorry. there is some seating in the back of the place, but if you are not lucky, you may have to stand while you eat your food.

Perfect club! Fresh Lobster roll soooo delicious! I ordered a lobster roll, garlic clam and con fritter! So good!

Wow small hole in the wall store front that makes and sells lobster rolls and home made New England clam chowder. If you sneeze or look away you will pass this spot. Very small store front with a back patio with a few tables and benches. The guys that work here are nice and friendly. They take your order and then prepare it fresh to order. I ordered the over stuffed lobster roll which comes with a half a pound of lobster meat compared to the regular which has only half of that amount. Then I ordered the home made New England clam chowder that was da Bomb. The chowder has the perfect amount of clams and potatoes. The soup is not runny and is the right consistency. They also have several other seafood dishes. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves lobster rolls as much as I do.

  • Cody F.

My favorite restaurant on my favorite key. You would pass it if you weren't looking for it but there is ample seating in the back. This place is home to the most succulent lobster roll that I have ever had. I could eat it every day, despite the $15 price tag, if I lived in the keys. I also recommend the Conch Fritters. The seating in the front is limited but there is great people watching to be had if you can grab a seat.

    (5)
  • Brian H.

This place is a bit of a whole in the wall, but it is worth the stop. I make sure I have the lobster roll at least two times a visit to Key West. The only complaint is the lack of comfortable seating to eat. One can choose to sit right on the patio in front, or in the rustic rear portion that is also outside. I would hope this place one day becomes a normal dining eatery so the delectable food can be enjoyed in comfort.

Huge lumps of lobster, fantastic flavor. Husband loved the pork tacos too, but beware has a kick!

  • Mian W.

I had lobster roll for lunch at Eaton Seafood Market, so I'm comparing this to Eaton. DJ's lobster roll has larger size lobster meat in it, so it's very chewy! But Eaton has tastier sauce in the roll (I guess it was a combination of mayo and spicy ingredients). Anyway, lobster rolls at both places rock! You can also get garlic steamed middle neck clams, which were really fresh!!! Seats on the deck overlooking the street is fantastic.

  • Amabel D.

The name pretty much says it all, it's a freakin' shack. It's definitely not the most glamorous place in Key West. Very limited seating, counter tops with stools in the front and then there's a patio in the back with another couple of counter tops and a picnic table. The place is pretty much dirty and unkept, but I believe the food makes up for the lack of cleanliness. Must have: Maine Lobster Roll - $14 (can get it DOUBLE STUFFED for $24) I think this is the "go-to" on the menu that everyone that goes here needs to try at least once. Also tried the Clam chowder, which came in a pretty large portion, considering how heavy of a dish it is. Delicious as well! Creamy and thick, every bite was just as good as the last one. The reason behind only 3 stars is the because of how the placed looked, it just made me uncomfortable of how unkempt it was. BUT the food was bomb, so go there and try it!!

Atmosphere 4 Food 5 Service 4 Decor 4 This place is seriously a hidden gem. And I am basing this off what I saw and the one steamed clam dish I had... 1) I like hole in the wall places, because you never know what surprise you would find. This is what attracted me to the place...This place seriously looked like a run down shack, with a window into the kitchen. However, I guarentee you, you can peak into their small little kitchen. it's neat and orderly..It was seriously a shack. It was not dirty though, I thought it was fairly cute. There is even seating at the back, if you want to sit...don't be discouraged about the small store front. . 2) When I was thinking about what to order, and waiting in line. I heard like 4 different parties saying they had to come back and eat this, they had to come back and eat that. This made me smile. Customer retention is always a good sign. For such a small place, if they can get customers, not to mention tourists coming back over and over again, I know this place is good 3) We ordered the garlic steamed clams, which were DELICIOUS. seriously, the clams were fresh, bathed in a delicious garlicy broth, topped a crunch toasted garlic bread. Our server told us that for our initial batch, not all the clams opened up, so they were coming out with a second batch for us. I see this as passion, people who care about what they do and what they serve. That is why people come back, because you can feel they care about the food they give you, which makes the food so fresh and so delicious... we wanted to come back for more food....we dropped by Tuesday afternooon, but they said they only open at nights on Tuesday...so tip for you guys who want to go there for lunch on Tuesdays...they're not open...

Ate lunch there with a couple of friends yesterday, steemed clams, fried shrimp and lobster tail sandwich. A couple of hours later, my friend started throwing up, his wife and myself felt uncomfortable in our stomachs although we didn't eat so many clams as our friend. Not recommended!

The CLAMS were in this fantastic garlic herb broth that after eating clams we dipped with bread and actually picked up bowl and took a slurp and a slurp and a .. til it was all gone

I'm not really sure why this place gets such high reviews, maybe because it's touristy and on Duvall , but the quality of the food is something akin to what you would get at long john silvers. Don't get me wrong the people are nice and the atmosphere is quaint but there are better fried clams out there for sure.

After eating at DJ's for the first time earlier this week, I had to go back again before leaving Key West. It's definitely my kind of place - good food and good vibes. Conch fritters, lobster roll, and mahi tacos were all delicious and the beer was ice cold. Bravo! I can also now say I've eaten somewhere that was on Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives, as it aired last night. My only wish is that they would've shown more dishes being made!

Ate here this past weekend with some of my friends. Got the fish fingers and they were delish. you could tell the fish was fresh and the portions were pretty large. Also got to try some of the lobster roll and it was pretty good. Definitely huge. Tried the onion rings also and they hit the spot. Kind of a hole in the wall and doesn't have a ton of seating but the food is cheap and tasty. Would come back.

As you walk up to the counter, you see a small counter that encompasses the entrance. The menu is on the wall next to the register, with the specials in chalk on the left wall. There are only two seats in the initial entryway, with a small walkway on the left leading to a back patio. Looking at the menu, we settled on the Maine Lobster roll, Conch fritters w fries, and a Sangria. The Maine Lobster roll comes in a regular size and an oversized option. However, the price difference is between 16 and 25 bucks. While ordering, it was obvious that the guy taking our order was very unenthused to be there. A bit of a turn off while ordering. After ordering, we went to the back patio. It has a decent dive atmosphere. Back patio has eclectic mix of seating, providing for a fun ambiance - with benches, barrel top seating, and counters. The food comes out and I have to say, it was pretty amazing. The lobster was abundant and flavorful - I can only imagine how much more lobster there would have been if we had ordered the 'Overstuffed' option. The Conch fritters were just okay - never having had conch before, I wasn't sure what to expect, but, let's just say all I really tasted was the breading and the honey mustard sauce. Overall, the food was excellent. I was opting for 3.5 stars because of the attitude of the cashier, but the food redeemed DJ's Clam Shack for me.

  • Alysha C.

Overpriced for what it was . The clams were tiny and you only got 1/3 the amount of clams to fries . 50.00 for lunch on the street was a little much

The lobster roll was oh so incredible. Beer was cold. Enough said. I seriously recommend trying this place out. Nice small place. Service was fast. Hole in the wall. They sure get the food right though.

Lobster Roll! A little piece of HEAVEN! This place have been featured on Triple D on TV Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. For the amount of lobster you get price very inexpensive..... If you get lucky and got a front bar seat its entertaining to people watch! Specially during Fantasy Fest week! Ohh and one more thing... their homemade lemonade is pretty good.... with crushed ice :)

In Key West for vacation and my buddy "stumbled" into this place for a lobster roll. Needless to say after hearing him brag about how awesome it was, me, my wife and friends had to have the lobster roll and conch salad. ....outstanding, delicious...highly recommend

If you are on duval definitely worth the stop. The we were contemplating a jumpo lobster roll and the fried seafood platter. The guy upfront said that a regular lobster roll would be more than enough... and forget the seafood platter and just get the fried clams... He basically downsold his own product... Im not gonna complain. He was right...the lobster roll is huge and has large claw meat and comes on a nice new england hot dog roll toasted on a flat top with butter. Awesome. I am a super fan of fried clams... and im talking the crappy supermarket ones that you cook in the oven that comes out hard... and i have to be honest... these aren't like that. These are real clams... battered and fried. He claimed they get them shipped daily from new england... is that true? I dont know but they didn't have a fishy taste at all. The price is cheap compared to other places. I can't complain. The only thing is that he told me to put both lemon on the clams... i did and it made the batter soft... Go here and give it a try... its only a couple bucks.. you are on vacation...If you are complaining about the price... u should stick with the grocery store fried clam strips (my fav)

I'm not a giant follower of Diners Drive inns and Dives, however I stopped there because of the other good reviews. If you like Lobster Rolls, then this is your oasis. Yeah it's a little expensive but when you see the chunks of real lobster you'll be satisfied. They also toast the bun in a tasty way. Very Good.

  • Cathy D.

I gave DJ's three stars for the lobster roll and only for the lobster roll. The lobster roll was indeed very good. Otherwise, everything we had would have been one star. So, my tip is get the lobster roll and ignore everything else on the menu. Absolutely DO NOT GET THE CRAB CAKES!!! The worst crab cakes I've ever had (and I've had lots - both near and far from the shore). When we were there, I looked over the menu and noticed the crab cakes were the special for the day - not cheap at $10 but would have been worth it for good, fresh crab cakes (we were in Key West after all). I specifically asked the guy at the window if the crab cakes had lots of crab and would not just be all breading. He assured me that they had lots of crab and were made right there fresh that day. Well, I guess one can make bad food in-house and fresh because what I got was two generously sized pieces of fried bread glob with a few crab flakes. Yuck! I ended up eating my onion rings as my lunch because even premade frozen onion rings were better than the "crab" cakes. BTW, don't get the onion rings either!

  • Zhi K.

Awesome! This place is small with a nice outdoor patio. I got the fish tacos, while my girlfriend ended up getting the conch fritters. The food was quick and delicious, and the service was fast and respectful. The only issue is of course finding parking either on the side of duval for a hefty fee or parking a little far away. However this is definitely a must try place if you are in the Key's.

I was not expecting there to be claw meat in my lobster roll. Not forthis price. The meat tasted gritty and it wasn't seasoned at all. I was not pleased with my dinner.

Awesome! We had read the reviews so decided to stop in for a quick lunch. My husband and I had the lobster roll and steamed middle neck clams. My father in law had the hot dog and my mother in law had the clam chowder. She said it was the best clam chowder she's had! And she would know...they are from Rhode Island and live there half the year. All of the food was delicious!

Piece of sh*t shack on a piece of sh*t street. Guy who looked like Kenny Powers took our order & is as stupid as KP, but not as funny. Got our order wrong 3 times. The conch fritters are basically all dough, fried crap. KP was also rude and curt, dropping some of our order on the floor and not saying sorry or offering to get more or anything. ONLY GO HERE IF YOU DONT GIVE A SH!T.

Ok, its tiny, but so yummy! We stopped here, on the suggestion of a local Key Lime shop. We ordered the fish fingers, and onion rings, and also had the fish tacos. A couple of beers completed our order. After ordering, and sitting down to wait for the food to come out, we noticed that Guy Fieri from the Food Network had been there. Tagged by his infamous face on their chalkboard, he had only reviewed them a few days prior!! The food was so good. The tacos looked delicious, and I didn't get to taste them before my friend inhaled them. My fish fingers were tasty, golden, and dipped in the tarter was a taste of pure summer. The onion rings were OK, my only suggestion, is to cut them slightly smaller... too big, the batter was a little mushy in some areas. All in all, I'd go back to taste something new!

Hungry? Just swing by for a lobster roll. No fillings. No frills. The real thing. The last awesome lobster roll that I had prior to DJ's was in New Hampshire. Real whole lobster pieces. Yummm. Sit in the back and enjoy the casual.Key West flair. Clean and casual. Very fitting locale for a Maine lobster roll. If you are high maintenance and want an indoors sit down meal, do fine dining.

a lot has changed in a year..the clams were sandy, every one of them. we went late at about 10 pm and it was inedible. nice guy though..said they are out of the lobster roll but had lobster..go figure.

Lobster roll = full of lobster and not full of mayo! Seasoning = delicious. Bread = crunchy softness and buttery! Price = moderate. Service = they're tired of tourists, so they were sort of grumpy. Seating = outdoors. We enjoyed seeing the live chicken...and her chicks!!!

The "overstuffed Lobster Roll" is simply amazing...and definitely worth the $ for the over-stuffing. The lobster is served chilled in a "light" seafood salad type dressing throughout. The bun is served warm and buttery. It is served with side of coleslaw and fresh lemon. Generous portions. 2 of us split one. We also tried the fish tacos (fried) which were very good. Apparently, you can request them grilled according to other reviewers. It was served with thin fries. The front of the "shack" has some great seats for people watching (and they are under cover in case of rain). The back seating area is very nice and cozy. Guy Fierro apparently just finished filming an episode for "D, D, &D" on The Food Network 2-3 wks ago. Check out their Facebook page for details. The guy at the counter is very nice and through the window the kitchen is very neat and clean. They do take credit cards and cash. Don't pass this place up...it's small, so easily missed....but what a gem!

We came here by following the good reviews. The overstuffed lobster roll $25 tastes ok compared with the lobster rolls in other places. Kind of underwhelming. Will not come back.

  • Guil M.

Wow. Don't even look at the menu when you get here. Walk up to the counter and order a lobster roll!! This is the best lobster roll I've ever had! It was extremely fresh, perfect mayo/lobster ratio, perfectly buttered roll, and lots and lots of lobster! It comes with seasoned french fries which weren't too special but that's ok because you'll be too busy paying attention to your roll anyway. We also ordered their conch fritters just because we were in Key West but I wasn't too into them. I won't be ordering these again but maybe that's just because they're not my thing. (The crab sandwich that the lady next to us was eating looked pretty good!) Their little shack looks small from the front but there's a really nice space in the back. You can order your food and just wait in the back for them to bring you your order. The boy working that day was cool and very welcoming. I know this sounds crazy but I've definitely contemplated driving a few hours to Key West just to satisfy my lobster roll cravings. It hasn't happened yet but I can't promise it won't happen in the very near future... If you're in Key West, DJ's lobster roll is a must!

One of the best things about life is trying things for the very first time. A couple of weeks ago I visited the beautiful Key West for the first time. My first meal in town was at DJ's Clam Shack in which I had my first ever Maine Lobster roll. My Maine Lobster roll was absolutely amazing; filled with huge pieces of lobster stuffed in between two buttery pieces of bread. Cole Slaw is included as a side dish. I inhaled everything in less than 2 minutes. I encourage anyone who is strolling down the famous Duval St. to stop by this adorable and tiny shop. It is definitely worth your while.

Shared the pulled pork tacos, lobster roll, and clam strips with a friend. The absolute best pulled pork tacos I have ever had! Lobster roll was very good, and the clam strips were typical fried clam strips but flavorful. Great place!!

Strolling down Duval my husband and I spotted this place b/c it had been featured on Triple D and therefore a must try for us. We only got the Conch Fritters and we were blown away. Best conch fritters I've had other then the conch fritters in the Bahamas. Great flavor, fried perfectly. Next time I want to try their steamed clams. Definitely coming back here on our next trip.

Holy moly! I know it looks like a hole in the wall and you were probably looking for somewhere you can sit, have a drink, be served and watch the passers by. But if you don't stop here for a lobster roll you are truly missing out. These sandwiches are jam packed with Maine lobster claws and cradled in a mouth watering buttery bun. There are a few places to sit and shovel your food in front and more seating out back. But you're not gonna want to look away from your lobster roll. And after you leave, all you'll be thinking about is coming back for more!

I'm a little confused by the glowing reviews. I guess most tourists don't know better? The food was completely mediocre and overpriced for what it was. (Basic sandwich with fries=$12.) Everything was definitely edible, but fairly bland and standard. The guy at the counter had a weird attitude at times, too. After I inquired about the salad, I was told, "this really isn't a salad place" and "I dunno...ranch dressing." Why bother having it on your menu? We were told there would be a wait, which was fine, so we sat out in the back and then after a while I went to the counter just to make sure our food wasn't waiting, I received a "I told you it was going to be a while!"

one of those place you won't notice if you are just walking down duval. this place was featured on triple D. so when I was planning the key west trip this place became a try place for the trip. Their lobster roll is great. the clam is a must try, rich, juicy. the conch fritter was a little disappointed.

  • Karen P.

It's a casual small place. Picnic table seating in a back patio and stools upfront facing Duval. The seafood is excellent. The clams in a spicy white wine sauce with toast and the Mahi tacos are great. Ive had the fried clams and the lobster roll also great. I always visit this little place when I drive to Key West. I am never disappointed.

The wife and I enjoyed the lobster rolls and an order of fried shrimp. The food was excellent. This is a great quick stop on Duvall Street in Key West.

Just what the doctor ordered! Everything was great! I reordered 3 times. The lobster roll was excellent, crab cakes were extra flakey and moist, everything was just...Wow!

  • Eric M.

Lobster roll delivers. Steamed clams are also very tasty. The clam chowder was good but not great. And the crab cakes lacked sufficient crab for my taste. But all in all, based on the first three items, a good place to eat!

Lobster rolls were great, clams were really good as well. Seating is outdoor but that doesn't bother us.

This is a solid seafood place to eat if you like lobster roll & the steam clam. The lobster roll has chunks of lobster in the bun, or should I say slice of garlic bread? The steam clam is pretty big, sweet and fresh. The only reason they didn't make a 5 starts like many other restaurants in Miami- the owner has shix face and attitude all the time....

I love conch fritters, and was looking forward to having the real deal in The Conch Republic. WARNING: THEY HAVE CHOPPED BELL PEPPERS IN THEM! I've had lots of conch fritters; none have ever had bell peppers. And I can't eat bell peppers. Bummer. My husband got the lobster roll that everybody raves about. While it was large, it was surprisingly bland. The fried clams had lots of little fried pieces, but not too many actual clams. Good onion rings.

My boyfriend and I were on a cruise to the Caribbean's and one stop was to Key West. We did not book any excursions at this port of call so we decided to 1) Get drunk and 2) Get fat. We were pretty drunk from $6 Bacardi 151 Mojitos and decided to Yelp for a nearby joint to satisfy our munchies. Dj's Clam Shack was just a few stores down from the bar and had great reviews so we decided to stop by! Also, we checked in on Yelp and got 10% off! It is pretty sad to say, but this was one of the best highlights of our vacation!! I cannot rave enough about this place. We ordered half a dozen of oysters on the half to start out with. The oysters were fresh, juicy and very succulent, possibly one of the best I've had. My boyfriend and I both ordered the lobster roll. Definitely the BEST lobster roll I've had thus far. You cannot get this kind of quality lobster roll anywhere in the DC area for $13. The lobster was also not drenched in mayonnaise or dressing. You could really taste the freshness of the lobster. We also ordered the conch fritters which was interesting to try since its super crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Service was amazing! The owner was super friendly. Absolutely no complaints!!!

  • Dan T.

Average food at best. Service was friendly but it did not make up for the food. Conch salad was $10 and had tiny pieces of conch and tons of bell peppers and onion. The salad must have been prepared too far ahead of time. The acid of the dressing had turned to conch into rubber. Fried clams were greasy, not coated with an adequate crust and oil tasted like it had not been changed it a bit. The cherry on top of this bad meal sundae was the group of dead ants that were floating in my Pepsi. They must have made their way into the soda machine and come out when I poured the Pepsi. I guess this happens... BUT you don't want it to happen to you. I would not recommend this place.

We drove 30 minutes to eat here because it had such good reviews. We got up to the window and asked one simple question and dealt with the biggest jerk in all of Key West. Me: How are you? Him: Just stares at me like I'm speaking another language. (No reply) Me: do we order here and then eat in the back? Him: 3 seconds and a stare like I'm bothering him ad finally a "a-hum" I don't need superb hospitality but try not to hire people that hate their jobs so much they turn business away. I will be sure to share this with everyone I know .

Stopped last night about 8:30, my husband and I both had the lobster roll, AWESOME! Add a couple of beers and a view of Duvall, what more could you ask for?

lobster roll was FULL of big, meaty chunks. gives the east coast a run for their money. conch fritters were also good - big portion. good little seats out front to watch the crowds on Duval. quick, easy, and good! great little pit stop for a super casual bite.

  • Kylix A. W.

Delicious! I wish there were lobster rolls of this caliber available close by. I tried clam shack on my trip to key west and will never forget how amazing it was. The only downside to the experience were the sold out menu items. Also, the boss lady wouldn't sell me any sangria because she was saving it all for herself. Made me laugh!

  • Kristy N.

We had the fish fingers, lobster roll, cracked conch bites, french fries, coleslaw and garlic bread. All was good - the only disappointment was the lobster roll. All the reviews about how great the lobster roll is did not ring true for us. But it is still a great place to grab a quick bite. It is a little hole in the wall place (literally) and you can easily miss it as you're walking on Duvall. The 2 guys working there were super friendly and defiitely have a passion for the restaurant.

Clam chowder is great. Conch fritters and clam strip good. I like eating in front and watch people and traffic pass by. The prices are decent and on par with others.

  • Viviane L.

We ordered the lobster roll and clam chowder. The bread is crispy and tasty. Clam chowder is good but a little too salty. The lobster meat doesn't have much flavor to it but they put a good amount of meat in it, so definitely will fill you up. Overall it's good but not great. I would definitely give it a try though.

Had the Lobster roll. My wife (from Dallas) had never had a Lobster roll before. I have been all through New England and enjoy many Lobster rolls in Maine and Mass, and these guys are spot on. My wife LOVED them, well, because they were excellent.

I was wasted but the conch fritters treated fantastic. Really quick too. I would go back there again for sure. Best drunk good on Duval so far.

The absolute best lobster roll I have ever had and I say that having tasted gourmet rolls everywhere from Maine to the carolinas! Mark was great and attentive throughout our visit. He recommended the conch fritters which were tender and perfectly fried. The coleslaw is great if you like it very fresh which I personally do. I can honestly say our whole party will be back here throughout our stay. Great food and staff I am so pleased this was our first foodie stop

The lobster roll...oh...the lobster roll. Alright, I'll be honest. Maine lobster in the keys seems just plane silly. I almost ordered something else (would have been a terrible mistake). My regular lobster roll, not the overstuffed one, was packed to the brim with squishy red goodness. Very little mayo for the dressing, making it a bit healthier. Of course, this was balanced out by the "bun". The bun in question was actually a huge slice of Texas toast cut in half, but not quite all the way through. Buttery and delicious. Next time I go I'm going to order another lobster roll with two buns. Seriously. No...seriously. We had a few other things there, I know there were fries involved, but frankly the lobster roll outshined everything else. Must go back. As a quick end comment, the people watching was very fun if you can get a bench near the entrance. Seating is veeeerrrrry limited so you may have to shark someone for a spot to sit. If you can't get a seat, just take it to go.

I am giving them three stars only because they didn't have the steamed clams I was craving for. However, their clam chowder was good, their Ipswich clams were good, and their lobster roll was amazing. Worth the money. Will be craving it again soon!

Eh..... it was ok, of course I got the lobster roll, the regular for $12.00 (hubby and FIL)and MIL had the shrimp taco (she didn't like it, too much dressing and peppers made messy tacos) back to the lobster rolls - eh... I've had lobster rolls in Boston, nothing to brag about. After having the conch fritters, I now know never i have to eat those again, yuck.

  • Alex C.

it's a little stand with a couple of seats on Duval street and 2 tables in the back. the Lobster roll is quite good - lots of meat and the dressing is just right and at $15, about par for Key West. beer is ice cold - the person manning the store is efficient enough, he seems really miserable in his job - but, that's not really what you came for.

I visited DJ's while visiting Key West and really enjoyed myself. I had never had conch before but I was very impressed by the golden fried cracked conch. The guy at the counter was very friendly and helpful. They also were not skimping on the sauces. He loaded us up with containers of six different sauces, all of which DJ's makes themselves. If you've got a hankering for some quick and delicious seafood, head over to DJ's!

I am visting Key West from Lake Ozarks, MO. Wanted some fresh clams & conch. Friend sent me to D.J.'s clam shack and I am so glad they did! The service was great. Barry & Trent took great care of my family and I. We tried the Conch fritters, clam chowder, & Lobster roll! Everything was so good! Can't wait to come back and try more. This is a must try!

    (5)
  • Saleh M.

Had the lobster roll and fried conch. The lobster roll was very good the conch fritters were ok. The lobster roll is on a generously buttered bread that really makes the dish shine. You cant really compare to NYC high end rolls but you will enjoy it. Pros: very good lobster roll. Cons: takes only cash and very limited seating.

Awesome food!!! Lobster roll is amazing. Husband got shrimp tacos which were so good! Very fresh and amazing quality. Would eat all the time if we lived here!!! Must try

  • Cindy S.

great lobster roll, great service. Only negative was the onion rings were a bit too crunchy and didn't have enough "onion" in them. Watch out for the hungry chickens - they know the food is great so they will pounce on your table if you sit in the back.

  • Fran H.

Great Lobster Rolls and Onion Rings with limited seating in the rear of the restaurant. Would love to try the Ipswich Clams at a future date. Cordial staff and fast service. A must in Key West!

This place is solid. It's very casual, right on Duval street, with a couple of counter seats out front, and a patio in the back. It's counter service, easy breezy. I wanted to get the lobster roll, and oysters. Unfortunately, they were out of oysters, but based on the looks of my lobster roll, there was definitely no shortage of lobster! I opted for the regular, not the overstuffed, and I was pleased, they don't skimp on lobster meat. And the bread...perfect lobster roll bread. Also loved that they had shaved ice for the soda. Good place.

  • Taylor D.

I love this place...I can't help it. It may be small, but I swear it has the best lobster roll in the country. The last time I visited I was only in key west for three days, and I ate at DJ's twice. If you don't like conch fritters, the ones here will change your mind! You have to stop by, grab a beer and get some seafood...you won't be sorry!

Went there on August 27th, it was the first stop on our 4 days in KW. I had a little bit of sticker shock, 2 Lobster Rolls-1 onion rings -1 beer -1 soda $45.00 . You do get your monies worth with the lobster roll. Would I go back again??? Probably not, I can't see spending that much for food from a shack. Would I recommend it yes if you like lobster rolls. The onion rings were great !

  • Dave S.

Conch Sandwich was affordable and amazing! The dipping sauce for the fries also amazing! My girl got the lobster sandwich and she loved it. Wish this place was not 2,500 miles away! Only reason i gave it 4 stars and not 5 is that there was not enough seating. In the back of the building they had more outdoor seating, but there was a terrible smell of dog poo. The dog poo is coming from one of the houses that backs up to it and the city should force the scum bags to clean it up. Its not DJ's fault at all. We got lucky and snagged one of the few seats in the front on the main drag so we could people watch and there was no stink to offset the amazing food.

Maine Lobster Roll and Clam Chowder - perfect combination!!!! I had to come back the following day to get the same thing! The guy on the counter was very friendly, too!

We set out to try the conch salad that was mentioned in many reviews on here. Here's what we have to say: She said: Meh, it was good don't get me wrong but not amazing. It was refreshing which was nice for a hot day though. It's worth noting that they have a self serve fountain machine--the first and only one I've seen since we've been here. It's a cute little place with about 6 seats at an open air bar that nice for people watching. The service was efficient, not particularly polite. He said: This conch salad tasted more or less like ceviche, which is not a bad thing but not what I was expecting. Maybe I don't like conch salad as much as I thought I did, or maybe conch salad always taste like ceviche, or vice versa. Self serve fountain is a big deal with it scorching outside, worth it just for that. Will try lobster roll next time.

Guy in the hole: "What can i get you?" Me: "I'm not sure actually... Something with clams...?" Guy in the hole: "Yes. You want the Ipswich Fried Clams." Me: "Well, ok, bring it on." And he was spot on right! That was exactly what i wanted. Sooooo, so, so good. Almost scary good. The guy was super friendly and fun. In a restaurant i expect the waiter to check in on me a couple of minutes in to the meal, asking how everything is. But not in a hole in the wall. But the guy at DJs actually took the time on a really hectic minute to shove his head out of the hole and asked me "Hey you. Yes you. What do you think?" So, DJ, from the bottom of my heart: I thought it was absolutely great and i loved every bite of it. Thank you!

Been looking forward to their lobster roll since first trying them two years ago. We were pleased to find they still pile the lobster high, but they weren't as good as remembered. The taste was bland and the lobster was tough. Perhaps it depends on who prepares it, because we found an inconsistency with the slaw. One was fine, but liquid from the second serving filled the plate when we plated it. With so many tasty options around, it's doubtful we'll give them a second chance this visit. Maybe we will the next visit to the area.

Best lobster roll and tacos. Place everyone needs to checkout!! You won't be disappointed. Seats in the front looking at Duval Street are the best.

One of our favorite places on the island. The fried batter is delicious. We love the fried clams and the lobster roll looked amazing. My wife wasn't a huge fan of her fried conch though. She thought it had too much breading. The courtyard out back is a great place to dine. Very casual!

  • R C.

When we went there around 3pm, they were out of clams. If you named your place "Clam Shack", you have to have clams no matter what. It's like a wine bar without wine. We are also disappointed at the grumpy old guy at the counter. He wasn't apologetic about not having clams. Anyway, about their food. I ordered conch fritter. It was pretty good, but I didn't like the sweet mustered sauce came with it. My husband had fish tacos, and my son had fish fingers with fries. The fried fish was over cooked, chewy, and dry. The other son had calamari. It was nothing special. We could have eaten same kind of food or even better food cheap at restaurants during their happy hour.

They will be CLOSE for the next 3 wks!!! Food: LOBSTER ROLL is to die for! $17 plus tax, comes with a roll evenly buttered on both side (not too oily) and a "shitload" of fresh lobster chunks (plainly mixed with bits of celery and mayo), just the perfect amount, a perfect "lobster cerviche" like sandwich for a hot day in Florida! Service: self service, order by the counter, get your food, and grab your own seats. Limited seatings: couple seats by the front porch, couple at the back of the shack. We took our food to go :) Parking: metered street parkings Price: $17 plus tax for lobster roll, a lil on the pricier side but worth it! Note: Check in on yelp for 10% off

Found the restaurant online and came here for snacks at night. The queue stretched all the way to the street. We saw that the restaurant was reviewed on triple Ds and our expectation increased. We had a fair wait before the food was served. At the very first bite there was such an intense flavor burst!! We started salivating and did not stop even after we finished the food. Will surely come again!! And again and again!! Street food at its very best!! Overall I would rate as - Ambience - 3/5 (nothing much of an ambience) Food taste - 5/5!! Presentation - 4/5 Food quantity - 5/5 Service - 3.5/5 Price - 5/5 Recommended dish - Mahi Mahi tacos and Maine lobster My first 5/5 review!!

At first I thought $16 plus tax for a lobster sandwich? And then I said, why not? We had read on yelp that it was $12 in the past so we were a little bit disappointed with the new pricing but we were not disappointed with the quality for what we got. The lobster was absolutely delectable and the bread they use is delicious as well. It is plain but it needs to be plain; why mess with perfection? I'm sure the owners are living the life but there's no reason why they shouldn't because what they've done is fantastic. It appears there are other items are of good quality as well and I have no hesitation giving this my highest recommendation.

Damn Gina! Lobster roll delight. Don't get me wrong -- this is indeed a shack. A walk up window, with a small hot outdoor eating area, about 10 food options and a faded fountain soda machine (pepsi products.) DJ himself is there, serving it up hot and fresh. We got the overstuffed lobster roll and the conch fritters. Make sure to check in on yelp for the 10% off. They also have a price for locals which I would imagine is about the same as the deal. Our lobster roll arrived just overflowing with lobster. And this Maine lobster, not Florida lobster. It's one of those cold rolls with mayo and celery and it's just a sight to behold. I actually had to eat some of the lobster out of the roll before I could even pick it up. Like the most delicious couch cushion had ripped and stuff was spilling out. The bread though - that's what was super unique. I've had a few (really, just a few) lobster rolls in my day and this was some amalgamation of bun and texas toast. If I could find that bread, I'd live on it exclusively. Our conch fritters were apparently traditional fritters but what do I know? They were hush puppy-like and apparently had conch in them. Since I've never had conch, I can't attest to that. What I can attest to is that they're frying them up hot and fresh and good. They come with some solid fries on which I liberally doused malt vinegar. Natch. If you're really looking for conch though, this might be a disappointment. For me, they were great. It's definitely a good find and one I'd love to bring back with me to Texas to try the rest of the menu.

We were in Key West for the day and decided to grab some dinner here, unaware that it was featured on Triple D. The boyfriend got the giant lobster roll and I got the clam strips. We're from Connecticut so we like our lobster hot and buttered, but the lobster rolls are usually cold with mayo. The guy at the counter was really nice and said that he could have it made the CT way. The wait wasn't long at all. I couldn't believe how much lobster came on the lobster roll, and it was amazing! Perfectly cooked and buttered - neither quality nor quantity suffer here. My clam strips were really good too, along with the well seasoned fries. The portions are enormous, and for what you get the price is good too. If I'm ever back in Key West, I won't go anywhere else.

  • Kathy C.

These have to be the best conch fritters I have had in Key West so far. Lobster roll was delicious, it's not as heavy as it seems and the Texas toast was a great touch. Clam strips were good but I would choose to try something new the next time around. They have great service, when I went they were wiping down seats after the rain so people wouldn't have to sit on wet seats as they searched for somewhere to eat. I will be back next time I am in Key West!

Sorry I'm a bit biased because I had awesome lobster rolls from Luke's lobster in Manhattan before and Luke's lobster rolls are much better in flavor than here. Putting that aside, the amount of lobster they put on the roll was crazy. Big pieces of fresh lobster. I couldn't even finish one roll myself. Overall, a decent place to come and try in the neighborhood. But if you want really really good lobster rolls, come to Luke's lobster in Manhattan

It was my birthday and we were in Key West. I had a bucket list which included Hemingway's house, Sloppy Joe's, Key Lime pie and conch fritters. We did Hemingway House then went directly to DJ's for food before Sloppy Joe's. I had the conch fritters which were perfect with the lime sauce to die for. Add a mound of fries and I was stuffed. Hubby had the lobster roll. On the grilled bun as is required but so different than the mayo New England type and more like a light lime dressing. Delicious and also with a mound of fries. We were very satiated. The staff was great too.

The best tasting, freshest lobster roll anyone can ever have. After my hubby and I tied the knot, I was ready to feast! Went over to DJ's crab shack and feasted on this lobster roll all by myself and left nothing behind.. So good!

On our first day in Key West we were starving after our flight from Atlanta and stopped in here for a casual dinner. We had the regular-sized lobster roll and the conch fritters. The lobster roll was a good size. There is bigger size, but the one we had was just right for two people to share for a snack. The conch fritters were fine, but I don't know why people love them so much. I'd recommend it for a quick bite.

While visiting Key West, someone got a little under the weather. We searched for a place to deliver us some yummy eats at our Inn...DJ"s delivers (thankfully)! Ordered the fish and chips...pretty good. A big enough portion to share I think. The lobster roll was ordered as well....it was stuffed FULL of lobster meat, overflowing even. Good thing because that Lobster Roll was costly $27....yikes! Once again though, it was big enough to split between 2 people. The service was friendly and our delivery guy must have pedaled fast. Fish and chips were still hot! Worth a stop in while visiting Key West. note: While walking by a few times, looks pretty small from the front, but there is more seating in the back.

I just ate the Maine lobster roll. It is delicious. The bread is freshly baked and the lobster is delicious. This place is a little treasure on Duvall street casually placed facing the road.

Mahi Mahi tacos, cold beer and people watching? A recipe for happiness for me! I saw this on Triple D and bookmarked it on Yelp immediately. After wandering Duval on a warm day this was a much needed respite. I yanked my wife away from shopping and headed up to the window. There was a couple in front of us ordering so we were able to spend a bit reading the menu. The prices looked a little steep but it's right on Duval and you pay for the view and the convenience. I ordered a Heineken and the Mahi Mahi tacos. We grabbed a seat on Duval and people watched while we waited for the food. We watched the orders before us pour out of the window and they all looked enticing. When our orders were up I couldn't believe my eyes. The tacos were like 8" long and the fish pieces were huge. The seasoning was perfect and the fish was juicy and moist with a great crunch on the outside. The beer was chilled to perfection and paired perfectly with the fish tacos. My wife had the shrimp tacos and she found hers to be plentiful and delicious also. I will make sure to go back time and time again when possible. I actually tried to make time to head back again during this past visit but time got away from me. Triple D recommendations never let me down.

Rocked up on our first night in key west, following recommendations from yelp! Glad we did. Hubby was starvin marvin by the time we'd checked into our hotel and gotten here, growing teen daughter was too.... We ordered a lot! Thanks yelp for the 10% discount. Lobster roll was shared, it was soooo full hubby said the conch tacos were the bomb( me thinks he watches too much DDD) the rest of the food was real tasty, we enjoyed every bite! Service was quick, chatty and helpful. We would eat here again, wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who 'd listen

THE LOBSTER ROLLS HERE ARE SOOOO GOOD! I throughly enjoyed my lunch here at DJ's Clam Shack. My boyfriend and I each had a lobster roll and thought it was amazing. It's nice to know when you order a $16 dollar sandwich its packed with a lot of the main ingredients, lobster! Some other places can be cheap and stingy on how much lobster meat they give you but this place did not hesitate. Not only was the lobster roll fantastic but the Conch Fritters were a nice add too. I never really had Conch Fritters before so I wouldn't know the different between good Conch fritters and bad Conch fritters. To be honest though, they were well seasoned. I wish they had oysters for us to try but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Thanks for making great Lobster Rolls!

My friend and I did a little conch fritter tasting around Key West and unfortunately these were our least favorite. The fact that DJ's had been on DDD I assumed their conch fritters would be the best in town. They were fresh out of the fryer but tasted almost doughy in a sense. I didn't taste much conch or other flavoring. We even tried drenching the conch fritter in cocktail and hot sauce but it still lacked flavor. I would return and try other things on the menu but would avoid getting the conch fritters!

Super good lobster roll and the fried clam strips were perfect! Tip: there is more seating behind the kitchen with the Key West chickens :) I staff was very friendly and asked us more than once how our food was and if there was anything they could get for us. We will be back!
